Beat Saber Stuttering and Losing Frames
So idk what the hell to do. This happens EVERY update for me. I bought the steam version of the game in hopes maybe it was more stable and it wasn't. I've tried the game with and without mods and using the oculus tray tool. I'm at my wits end and just want to play the game I purchased.

Haven't been able to play for a week now, intermittent stuttering every ten seconds or so, so bad that you'll fail any fast song for it. Tried reinstalling the game already, updated drivers, every damn trick in the book: Nothing helps.

When you play again try having the steamvr on top of beat saber on the desktop this fixed the stuttering for me

You could also try adding "-vrmode oculus" (no quotation marks) to the launch options.

I'll give it a shot!

I am having the same issue, massive frame drops with this current update.
* "-vrmode vive" has no impact
* in game video settings have no impact

You can try having something on top of beat saber ie in the background of something else possibly steamvr

My guess is switch to VR view on SteamVR.

Oh my god it worked. Someone in-game + Redegg89, thank you.

Super weird, but yes, on my desktop screen when using Alt+Tab, I see "Beat Saber" and "VR View". If I Alt+Tab to "VR View", then there's no frame drops in the Vive headset. Can't believe something like this is the fix. Relieved.

SOLUTION: on your desktop, make sure Steam "VR View" is enabled and on top; not the beat saber app.

I've been doing some troubleshooting on my end and have found the following to be true:
  • Having monitored the gameplay of another person, while observing the system performance meters and the SteamVR frame time graph, my particular set of issues manifests itself as excessive frame time jumps. These can be felt at the beginning or end of a song and as for most people - intermittently in the songs.
    These last for 0.5 - 1 seconds and vary in intensity. Some manifestations are inconsequential slow-downs that may seem nitpicky (that's how it started for me), while others are full blown instances of the game soiling its pants and then after one second - pretending nothing happened.
  • The issue can manifest when CPU load peaks, but most often is not related to CPU load (Typical load 53%; Peaks up to 75%; i5-6600k @ 4.7 GHz);
  • Reducing mod quantity does not yield better performance - tried a complete wipe of the game files;
  • Using OVR instead of SteamVR (-vrmode oculus) gives little-to-no glitching (that I noticed), but tracking (obvious delay; Enough to throw off the feel of the game) and rumble feedback feels broken when compared to SteamVR;
  • Having something on top of the native game window helps reduce the stutter impact, but does not completely mitigate them;
  • Updated Nvidia drivers to 445.87 on my RTX2070 - no effect;
  • Walls tend to be more often a trigger for the stuttering than other game features. And scenes when a lot of new blocks fade in after a period of emptiness (densely populated sections can trigger these events as well). Sometimes it just happens when 3 notes appear on the screen, as a means of taunting the player into submission.
  • I checked whether I have updates while gaming enabled - nope; For my last sessions apart from Steam and the Oculus app, my pc was butt naked.

I tried to track this issue to background processes interfering with the games priority. I suspect maybe a background process may be the catalyst - perhaps a Windows Defender-type ordeal?

This is really driving me nuts right now. My PC is not being pushed to full capacity when these issues occur and it does not appear to be chocked by a hardware deficiency.

If anybody has any ideas based off of the above - please let me know.
