Lag causing unplayable game
To start out with i have been playing this game for months back when it came out. During that time i started out with high settings and it all worked smoothly. As time passed with each update lag started happening. It lead me to lower the settings and delete the mods except for custom songs. This didn't all happen over a instant it start 2 months after playing beat saber then things slowly got worse. I've looked up many things to try and stop the lag. I even tried oculus homeless and other stuff like cleaning my pc or uninstalling games. This still didn't work leaving me clueless still. The only time i can get the game to run smoothly is on luck or if i reinstall the game then download all my songs and custom mods again(mods being the ones for custom songs).

At this point im desperate to find a way to stop the lag at least even a little without deleting mods. I could play this game without mods but at that point im going no where. I'd be tired of the same maps and tired of how easy it is. This lag mainly effects the community maps that have very fast bpm. Some of these maps require some much from you to beat them that you cant have lag or else you've just lost track of the beat. I know i can beat some of these maps as i consider my self a very good player so its not me. This lag is basically holding me back in a lot of ways, competitively, my enjoyment, and fun. Playing a map even if its a nice slow one isn't satisfying. Random lag will hit out of no where even in the slow maps.

Basically i'm looking for any small amount of help i can get to prevent the lag. The main thing i have done is used oculus homeless to prevent some lag. I'll also say my cpu is at 60 - 100% when playing beat saber FYI. My pc is labeled to be "vr ready" for oculus so idk why it would be my pc. Here below i will list the specs of my pc.

Specs:

RAM: 8.00GB

Proccessor: Intel Core i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz

Graphics Card: GTX 980 Ti

I'm not sure if anything else is need for hardware to know but this is what i have. I doubt its my pc because beat saber has been the only one lagging overtime as its grown. Like i said i'm looking for any help on this.

Well, all I can say about this hardware is that your CPU is really limit for VR position calculation.

There is issues with the CameraPlus plugin so maybe that's it if you have it installed, but I've found that most of my issues with it are in the menu, not actually in-game. It could also be an Avatar, I have a few avatar that my PC can't handle very well. It could also be your sabers, or your platform. Try with no avatars, stock sabers and stock platform, without the CameraPlus plugin.

This is what ive been doing. I have only the mods for custom songs. It still lags sadly.

This lag actually has gotten out of control. The playability of the game is pathetic now, all maps i've been playing have some sort of lag. This game seems to of taken a fall in mods somehow. I dont think im can truely play this game if its gameplay is always lagging. With no one telling me anything or helping i might just give up on this game. No one should spend weeks or months just to get some help. I use to like when beat saber was playable but now at this rate its just dying for me. Its sad cus i thought i had something in it too.

This is not normal, and it should never happen. No software just gets worse over time and starts to perform worse and worse, it's just not a thing that can happen. Maybe in a single session due to an issue like a memory leak, but never between reloads and full reinstallations of the game. This is definitely a hardware problem, it doesn't mean if it says that your PC is VR ready, this is just a guideline. Sounds like your CPU is overheating terribly or maybe it's straight up dying on you. Clean the PC properly, replace the thermal paste, see if it thermal throttles. If it does buy better cooling maybe that will help, close anything else you have running in the background. Do a clean install maybe you have too much junk, I don't know your setup, you should know best.

Also, that processor is really jjust barely enough for VR, if it's reaching 100% usage then you are walking on thin ice. It is 100% a hardware issue and the only thing you can do is either buy a better CPU, or try to get your PC into tip top shape any way you can, but even then it might not be enough. The game is constantly getting updated, the requirements might increase and there's nothing you can do about it.

Change your anti aliasing settings to 4x, that should rectify the issue.

I can confirm TwelveKay's comment, try it out and see if it works cuz I was having the same problem. Works like a charm for me. Thank you!

I don't get it.. is this increasing or lowering the AA? How can increasing the AA make the lag go away?

Not necessarily. I'm encountering the exact same problem as him and I'm using a relatively new GTX 1080ti with an i5-6600K, which is enough to run new games on at least high settings on 4k. It's definitely Beat Saber that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up some settings. I already encountered problems like this on other games, for example For Honor, when they accidentally broke the HBAO+ setting.

Is your GPU hovering around 30%? I've been having issues as well where the game ran very smoothly with my i7-7700HQ and GTX 1060 6GB, but there has been gameplay-breaking lag for me recently. I also tried reinstalling and everything to no avail. My GPU usage never goes above like 40% and my integrated graphics (im on a laptop) is at like 50%.

try putting the Antialising setting (or however it's called) to 4x. You probably have it on 8x, I had the same issue until I did that.

No I have it off and SS at 1.2. My GPU ran these settings like a dream before.

Unfortunately that didn't work for me. I'm having a weird issue where my 1060 drops to like 30% and integrated rises to like 50% only for beatsaber. It causes bad lag in many songs. Integrated graphics stop and GPU rises to ~80% as soon as I go to SteamVR Home or another program.

Not sure about previous versions, but the game is heavy in CPU usage. I am pulling about 40ish percent CPU usage with an on all 8cores (3700X). My 2080TI graphics card is sitting about 40% usage during play. Zero lag, other than menu weirdness. Also make sure you have any web browsers closed as that gobbles up a lot of memory.
