I would love to see some more leaderboards as well (age, with modifiers, without modifiers etc.).
@OP: I had my friend try beat saber (30ish) and she only managed to beat easy mode after trying several times. So it's not all about age! I am sure even you can beat the expert songs with more practice and improving your technique. There is a nice practice mode where you can slow down the song if you didn't know already. Don't give up!
Cheers!
I would also like to see the leaderboards with modifier filters. At least the scores should show which modifiers they were using.
Yeh but we don't care
I assume you mean NPS (Notes Per Second), not BPM...
And yeah most of the top 100 players are very young, like around 15-16 years-old. However, that's the absolute top level, and this game is basically a physical sport so it's expected that younger/more fit people would be better at it. Especially when it comes to stamina.
But this doesn't mean you can't get good at the game, it just means you can't really keep up with the best. I'm 28 years-old and not very fit, and I worked myself up to 9 star ranked maps (these often have NPS in the 8-11 range and/or crazy hard patterns) just fine, it just takes practice.
I'd suggest trying out modded, there's a lot of excellent community tracks made that are mapped really well and provide good challenge at expert and expert+. Some of them are really creative.
I cannot got back to the official songs now, they are just that bad in comparison.
Also, don't worry about rankings. You get your score, and that's all you've got to beat next time. Get your buzz from being told "New HighScore".
It's not all just about being physically fit, but also having good rhythm and the ability to function when the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Some experience playing violin or piano - where the hands work independently - may help.
We should set up a server some time for players over 50!
P.S. Another thing: The music packs are a way for me to become familiar with the music my (teen/young adult) kids listen to all the time. Now I know what they mean when they say, "this song slaps!"
Yeah, the OST 1 and OST 2 beatmaps in particular are awkward, even on hard difficulty. I have come to think of them as relics of an older, darker time when even the developers hadn't yet worked out the principles of good level design for this game.
Camellia tracks are much harder, but also much more satisfying. Many of the beatmaps in the music packs are just delicious.
I absolutely endorse this approach! I'm only competing against myself, really. If others in multiplayer are much, much better than me, I congratulate them heartily - pantomime applause, bowing in reverence - and keep playing.
Using the Index controllers makes the game much harder, as they are nearly 290g afaik.
Rift S controllers are only 160g. So maybe try a Rift S to make the game less straining.
Playing with Rift S is like playing easy mode.
