The reason an automatic song generator wont exist is because it will always be wrong. For games like Audiosurf and Beat Hazard, it's fine to be messy and even 'wrong' in some places because the gameplay is different. And for the most part, they're only based on intensity and just about any sound that pops up in the song.
When it comes to games like Rock Band, osu!, Step Mania, and Beat Saber. Automatic song generation simply wont work. In order to keep people interested, the patterns must be unique, but possible. And at the same time, the game also needs to figure out what beats of the song it should apply the boxes to. And then it would also need to figure out how to also add other game features in, like obstacles and bombs. While it seems bombs are pretty well optional, most if not all songs include at least one obstacle.
I know, BoxVR does in fact include automatic song generation. But it only proves me right. What it gets right, at least, is automatically calculating the bpm and the starting offset. Intensity is too easy to figure out to give it any credit. But what it gets horribly wrong is the uniqueness in patterns. It has just a couple of sets of very long premade patterns that it strings in based on the 'intensity' of the song, and even randomizes which ones it picks, not even basing it on the music itself. It only took me an hour to memorize every pattern it uses. And when it comes down to beat map complexity, Beat Saber is even more complicated than BoxVR. It would be extremely difficult or actually impossible to generate fun songs for people to play.
Audio shield is like beat saber and is a workout too, however this game has a built in song generator and all you have to do is search on youtube for a song while your in the game. after you choose a song, if it hasnt already been uploaded to the game servers itself it will upload it and generate the colors for you however it might take a minute or two. but basically is what i am saying is that beat saber should incorporate this into there game too and it works very well.
Then you'd have to go back, delete notes, add directions and choreograph it from that point to make it any fun to play. Hit me up on the Discord (I'm an admin there, so should be easy to find) if you want more info about the generator tools!
