Monetization
First, off I would like to say I'm not going to type anywhere that I know full well the legal ramifications of making modding officially supported in the games current state and beat sabers current method of monetization. However, not supporting mods has put many people off from the game and continues to do so. Having to wait for sometimes 2-3 to play beat saber again due to a lack of sometimes necessary mods is a dealbreaker for many new players even with the substantial amounts of great gameplay and well-mapped songs that mods have to offer. I cannot for the life of me understand why beat saber has not gone a similar route as osu!. Is it that unlikely to make your money through an optional monthly sub. to the game? If you think that beat saber is too small then I would say you're wrong, there are more than enough people who would gladly support beat saber despite its small player base in comparison to osu!. Also, how is it that the devs expect to get people to spend lots of money on buyable content that is entirely a rip-off. Most of the songs in the song packs that you can buy have been mapped by experienced mappers already, some of the pack give you only 10 songs for 20$!!!!! That is literally unprecedented and completely ridiculous to think that is acceptable. If the devs want beat saber to have a future and are wondering about ways to improve the game this is a start. Honestly, even if this is the first time I'm speaking up about this their is no way I'm the first person to try and get the devs to make changes to the game that don't involve minor bug fixes and more song packs. That being the case why do you insist on ignoring your community? They know what they want and if you continue to ignore them it's gonna show in the game as it has been recently. The game feels unrefined still with notes being way to easy to hit requiring usually the you merely need to slice in a straight line doing a full swing to get a 115. Sure it's not easy but there is no reason the hitbox should be so lenient that I can take a diagonal note, swing straight down, and then proceed to get a perfect on it. Keeping on with hitboxes, the number of times I have seen even high-level players swing with their sabers tilted inward and get a 96-97 on a song is ridiculous. Moving on... mods are the cornerstone of this game. If those ever get banned by the devs then it's all over, you might as well sit in your grave alongside Muse Dash. That being the case stop treating beat saber-like it's at a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Mario checkpoint and move on and improve the game. All I'm saying is I'm sure there is more to do than to just add minor bug fixes, ignore your community, and have mappers who used to map back in 2019 make poor excuses for playable maps just so you can try and overprice them in a song pack.

remember that time it took forge like 9 months to update to the new minecraft version

you could've made and sold a baby on the black market in that timeframe

i mean, music licensing is insanely expensive for any songs you've ever heard of, even with facebook behind them, plus the mapping work, so it's really not that radical.

and they added the official custom song loader, which is, in my opinion, far more than you could have ever hoped for.

yeah, you'll have to go without your anime waifu with full body booby tracking for a couple days, and you won't be able to use your dildo lightsabers, but you'll still have all your custom songs and the ability to download more directly from beatsaver's website...

they update the game, stuff needs to be recompiled. big whoop. it happens to literally everyone. otherwise they'd have to put in the effort to make their own distinct modding api that is independent of unity core, which is ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure osu doesn't license any of the music and they still fully support everything\

Whats ridiculous is all the people being pressured to constantly update mods on their own because they are essential to the games playability. My argument is that beatsaber is leaning on the modding community so much that if they ever decided to stop updating mods the game would just die.

Not to mention they have the resources to put into an independent modding api.. Who knows if they would even have to pull any of the weight the modding community would probably be more than happy to help.

osu is also free, and not owned by a major company like facebook, who have to enforce legalese

modding apis are inherently limited to whatever the vision of the people creating the api have. even if they did have one, people would still make direct unity mods.

anybody who's ever ended up authoring a popular mod for a game that updates has to deal with naggers. that's just the way it is.

I think I forgot to bring back a point that I made earlier in my last comment which was that I wasn't aware of the legality or difficulty of doing this. All I was saying is that it is an obvious step in improving the game. I'm saying this after playing for over 1000 hours. I know the game and as someone who spent a lot of time playing it I have a good idea on what the community as well as I would want to see change instead of what they are doing right now. Although I am certainly not claiming I speak directly for them what I mean is that I have heard through talking to other top level players and others who have played this game for a long time seem to agree that supporting mods fully is a direction they would like the game to go in.

I understand facebook now owns beatsaber but if anything that would just nullify several of your points before. If anything facebook has the resources and the knowledge to do all of these things. Although they probably won't since it isn't a direct profit
gooooood mewing vietnam! 2020 年 5 月 24 日 下午 9:24
that's exactly the point, they have no reason to poke the beehive with everything working perfectly as it is, like all heavily modded games have always worked
TEC | Freedom_Syllable(GN) 2020 年 5 月 24 日 下午 11:29
The game has stagnated that's the reason. it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lifeless rn with no actual change
gooooood mewing vietnam! 2020 年 5 月 25 日 上午 1:07
as opposed to what? you keep comparing it to osu, how has that changed in any significant way in the last decade?
