Maybe I can help in another way, what about hard makes it too easy and expert too hard?
I just feel there's suddenly a lot more boxes to cut and can't keep up with them. since they block the view of the ones behind, it feels like quite a difficulty jump
The important thing to remember for the boxes that are right behind other boxes (i.e. you can't see the arrow), is that, at least for the original song set, they're always in the opposite direction of the block immediately proceeding it. Aside from that, it just comes down to practice and building up the strength/coordination.
If you find Hard too easy and Expert too difficult, my suggestion would be to try and go for all ranks S (or SS) for songs on Hard mode; if you were just going for a full combo in hard mode up to this point, this will up the difficulty considerably. If you can already do that and are still hitting a wall with Expert, the best way to practice is to turn on "No Fail" mode and just run through the songs until you break through that wall.
I thought the jump was really big too, but not too much if you work your way towards it.
i'll give those suggestions a try
I went easilly through the campaign up to the songs in hard, but I quickly lose all the expert songs.
I went through all the songs several times after that, in hard rank S with full combos... but expert is still way too hard, and I don't have any feeling that I'm starting to get it...
I guess I'll try custom songs to find an intermediate difficulty, but that's not a good thing to require that to close the gap. (or maybe I'll add modifiers ?)
Maybe the shock is due to the progression between easy/normal/hard that is very very smooth... maybe those gaps are too small and the hard/expert gap too wide ?
Maybe they should add another difficulty between hard and expert?
But yeah, the skill jump can be pretty bad if you aren't 100% in-tune with your inner lizard-brain.
