What is this new "group" feature in the main menu?

Hi,
Maybe it is here since very long time, but I've just discovered this new feature "group playing" where you need to enter your name each time you play.
I wonder what is the purpose of this feature ? is it to let multiple users "try" beatsaber in one single account? So each one can enter his score and see who's best without the need of having a headset/steam/meta account for the scores to be recorded ?!

Isn’t it called ‘party’? I’m pretty sure the point is as you said - everyone plays to see who is the best.
