I'd buy it from the oculus store, should be more optimised for the quest I'd say?
But you can always use link cable.....
can you use modded custom songs on the headset when not linked... using the installed game.
(I remember their used to be a hard way to do it)
and if you buy it on steam, do you have to be plugged into the pc to use steam's beatsaber?
Also, it works surprisingly well with Steam VR if you do the link thing. You can actually play the Steam version of the game that has better mod support, using your Oculus quest. And the experience is basically the same as when I was using the Vive. No input lag or anything, everything works just as good as if you were playing it normally on the Quest. Actually, even better since the performance is slightly better due to the PC rendering the game, not your Quest.
From my own experience, I honestly can't see a reason to get the Rift S in this situation. Quest just seems like a more flexible and cheaper option.
I trust the Quest's controller tracking, I've watched alot of videos about it and it seems fine and better than most. You answered alot of my questions playing it linked. I do really hope I can get my custom songs working in un-linked mode.
Yeah, Rift S, I was a Rift CV1 fanatic but Quest is offering so many things. I can't even believe it lets you link.
I hope it doesn't lag. I'm going to try it in DCS (I do DCS a little differently than some, I try to make it VR friendly and VR fun) That should tell me a lot about display lag. I'm getting a 3rd party cable too, and I have high hopes, the reviews were good, but unless someone really plays a lot of different games like you do, they may not even be aware of lag.
I'll let you know how my cable does.
As for where you want to buy the game, if you have the Oculus Quest, you buy it on the Oculus Quest store. There is no cross play, you need to buy it for the device you own. Unless you will only play the Steam version through Oculus link, then buy it on Steam. But I would really recommend the Oculus Quest version, not having to worry about the cable is great and it boosts the immersion by quite a bit.
I mainly got it because I'm trying to de-clutter. this time last year I had controllers and Rift everywhere haha.
I can't give you a good answer to that, the only one that I have really tried through link is Beat Saber. And it's not the most technically advanced games as far as visuals are concerned. But as far as Beat Saber goes, it looked better than the native Quest version of the game, and it looked close enough to the Steam version that I played on the Vive before that I couldn't really tell the difference. The colours were a little less vivid when I was using the linked quest, not the Vive, but it's not a deal breaker to me. Can't say about other games, but I would say that this is probably correct if you compare it to the newer headsets. Vive is one of the first ones that came out, and I bet the newer ones look even better than it.
You can play the Steam version of Beat Saber on the Quest untethered however for this you need to stream the game to the Quest via Virtual Desktop. The program isn't for free though and the quality might not be as good as using the Oculus version of Beat Saber. So I'd say just buy it from the Oculus Store on the quest.
There are step by step guides online on how you can mod the Quest version of Beat Saber with custom songs.
