Lag spikes on very high end machine
I’m running a i7-9700k processor w/ 16gb ram and a gtx 2080 super and I get random lag spikes in this game for seemingly no reason.

My processor is barely reaching even 7% usage.

Has anyone else had this issue lately?

To be clear I’m using a oculus rift and purchased the game through steam.

The lag became noticeably worse after installing the custom songs/beatsaver mod

I feel like that can’t be it though because tons of people have been using this mod all year for custom songs and nobody else has been seeing any issues on noticeably less specs.

so remove the mod and find out for sure?
Night 2020 年 6 月 9 日 下午 10:42
Removed all mods and the issue still happened. I will note that my graphics card driver was out of date so updating that certainly helped.

The game still has occasional lag spikes though, about 1 lag spike every other song.

Is this in line with other folks with these specs?

These specs really should be able to run anything beatsaber throws at it.

Possibly because its a steam version not native oculus?

The new SteamVR update broke something so it's pretty much like that for most Oculus users

My beat saber was hellla laggy when I opened it. I had to uninstall the mods and reinstall. It still lags when I first open for a few brief seconds but then smooths out. It's never lagged for me until now.

This happens every few SteamVR updates. It sucks ♥♥♥♥ and they never say anything about it.

Not sure if you're still facing this issue or not. I had similar problems and after much digging discovered I had background updating enabled for Steam that caused this for me.

From main Steam window:
View >Settings > Downloads > (uncheck) Allow Updates During Gameplay

It's a SteamVR issue. You can make your gameplay smooth again by running the game in oculus mode through Steam, but things like full body tracking in combination with avatars will not work sadly.

To do this :
- Right click Beatsaber in your library
- Click on Properties
- Click on Set Launch Options... under the General tab
- Type "-vrmode oculus" without the quotes in the box and click ok
- Launch the game and it will not use SteamVR and the game will run smooth as butter

You can always remove that line in case you wan to check if the next SteamVR update improved anything but as for now the normal and beta release of SteamVR are still broken.

Valve should really kick the ones in their team that released these horrible updates because it is costing them a lot of money because it is not only happening with the Oculus VR hardware, but all other brands as well including the Valve Index. But as an Oculus user we can at least use this workaround.

Because I tried so many steps and SteamVR did work for one single update for me about a month ago, but they broke it in the next update again.
Several the stuff I tried to improve things (i7700, GTX1080ti, 16gb ram)
- I moved SteamVR and Beatsaber to my SSD
- Tested with many settings in the NVidia drivers by setting VSync to either fast or off or 3d app settings, MSAA and FXAA for AA, updated to latest version.
- Disabled Nvidia overlay
- Added a dedicated (Startech) USB 3 card that draws extra power from the power supply and uses a controller for every single port for maximum bandwidth and connected my Oculus Sensors and Oculus CV1 to that card.
- Switched between beta and normal releases of SteamVR and Oculus software several times to see if any differences.

So please Valve, if anyone in your team reads this forum, please fix it. Because I am someone that loves to use Steam, and I hate Facebook. So imagine how hard it is for me to say that the Oculus software is a lot better right now for all PC users.

You posted this a while ago, so Idk if you see this, but is there any other way? Because withour steamvr I cant use OVR and fpsVR in game

I've recently discovered that apparently people install OS & software on SSDs but still keeping Windows page files on HDDs. Basically in this case games may have their resources dropped on HDD page file and it will be difficult for them to get this data to the RAM in time when needed in case these HDDs are parking the heads for power saving reasons.

If you remove page files from HDDs you will definitely reduce freezes in all games on your PC. Windows is too stupid to do this by default, unfortunately. Even a very high end machine can be set up wrong if you let Windows decide..

I used to have a similar problem when I had my Rift S plugged into a usb 3 pcie expansion slot. I've switched it over to a dedicated usb 3 slot on my motherboard (conveniently labelled 'VR') and haven't seen the issue since.

Apparently this issue is back. I just upgraded my PC this year,, game ran great. Beat saber runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for the last few weeks. I will try uninstalling maybe, but wow. Used to run amazingly at 144Hz and now it runs like crap at 90Hz. I have never had issues with this game running poorly, until now.

I have an AMD 5600X, RTX 2080 (hurry up 3080 drops!), 32GB RAM

Anyone else having these issues recently?

Are you on HDD or SSD, did you read my comment above? There is a high chance Windows page files are not set up properly and this worth to be checked first.

Of course not, again, a brand new PC. I am all m.2 NVME drives (240GB for OS, 2GB for games). Caching is not the issue, or it would arise on all my games. Beat Saber is the only one that is having problems.

Since the update I have consistently experienced one large lag spike towards the end of every song. Rather annoying since it usually kills my chances at SS rank. Played beautifully prior to update.
