Also, it's an intense physical activity, your body is probably not used to it as well. Do some warm up before the sessions, a couple of minutes of stretching will do wonders for your body stamina.
That's because the vast majority of expert and community made maps are crap.
There is no "intended way" of playing this game. And you're definitely not an arbiter of it. I have no idea where you came up with your line of reasoning...
Also, It's funny how you think that actual sword fighting involves flailing your whole arm around. It's exactly the opposite. It's full of discrete movement, that are focused on the least movement possible. Flailing your arms around creates too much momentum and leaves you open for a counterattack. And if light sabers were real, you would definitely just flick them around with your wrists, because that's way faster than extending your arm and you don't need any momentum to cut with a lightsaber. In this regard, Beat Saber is much closer to real sword fighting and theoretical light saber fighting than it is to your misguided view of how those things work in real life.
If you play this game and damage your shoulders, then that's your own fault. And you are definitely playing the game wrong. The game is not supposed to destroy your body, if it does then you need to work on your technique.
Also, as Worst Face stated.. many of the older (OS1) maps are atrocious. There are a couple, like Escape, that are good - but they're the minority.
I'm just gonna let that stand here because the juxtaposition is so damn funny. To be clear I agree with the latter part of the post, but it directly contradicts your first part.
I have 0 mobility in my left wrist and 30% in the right one.
Starting to clear the harder expert+ songs now.
It's all about practise, type 2b muscle fiber and keeping your playspace clear.
