Expert+ shoulder pain
So after clearing all of the songs on expert mode, i've moved on to expert+. Expert was certainly tiring, but Expert+ seems to cause shoulder pain way before the rest of my body is tired. I cleared $100 bills without too much trouble, but balearic pumping specifically has a lot of movement that feels very unnatural.

Is this a normal experience or am I just out of shape?

Maybe you just need to get used to it.

might want to stick to expert until it starts to feel like a walk in the park and then try some expert+ songs if u are having shoulder problems

i usually warm up with hard songs and then successively move towards expert after 30-40 mins of playing if i havent touched the game for over a week

I don't know how you could be getting shoulder pains, maybe you're moving your arms too much? You're not supposed to flay your entire arm at the notes. Use your wrists, it's quicker and more efficient, arms should only be used to reposition your wrists around.

Also, it's an intense physical activity, your body is probably not used to it as well. Do some warm up before the sessions, a couple of minutes of stretching will do wonders for your body stamina.

You wouldn't flick around a real sword/saber with your wrist. That feels incredibly lame to do playing this game, may as well just be sitting playing OSU with your wrist flicking around a mouse. But unfortunately, to play Beat Saber in the way it was intended is damaging to your shoulders when you get into the community made Expert and up maps...

That's because the vast majority of expert and community made maps are crap.

There is no "intended way" of playing this game. And you're definitely not an arbiter of it. I have no idea where you came up with your line of reasoning...

Also, It's funny how you think that actual sword fighting involves flailing your whole arm around. It's exactly the opposite. It's full of discrete movement, that are focused on the least movement possible. Flailing your arms around creates too much momentum and leaves you open for a counterattack. And if light sabers were real, you would definitely just flick them around with your wrists, because that's way faster than extending your arm and you don't need any momentum to cut with a lightsaber. In this regard, Beat Saber is much closer to real sword fighting and theoretical light saber fighting than it is to your misguided view of how those things work in real life.

If you play this game and damage your shoulders, then that's your own fault. And you are definitely playing the game wrong. The game is not supposed to destroy your body, if it does then you need to work on your technique.

the old expert+ maps are just bad. I wouldn't play them at all.

Personally I don't just flick my wrists around, I use full swings far more often than not. That said, my shoulders don't typically get tired.. my biceps get tired and feel like they're starting to cramp up (lactic acid buildup, too much effort and not enough oxygen coming in) well before anything else hurts.

Also, as Worst Face stated.. many of the older (OS1) maps are atrocious. There are a couple, like Escape, that are good - but they're the minority.

I'm just gonna let that stand here because the juxtaposition is so damn funny. To be clear I agree with the latter part of the post, but it directly contradicts your first part.

I have 0 mobility in my left wrist and 30% in the right one.
Starting to clear the harder expert+ songs now.
It's all about practise, type 2b muscle fiber and keeping your playspace clear.

I had this same problem for a long time while playing the expert+ songs. My best advice about it is to stick to the Developer maps and you'll always kind of find a smooth rhythm to them, like a nice way to arc your entire body into each motion. (Excluding the original ost because some of them were before they really got the development right) It helps to avoid the lurching motions. I use "Elixia" and "I need you" at +20% speed modifier to warm up and practice for the much faster songs as well.
i cant even play Expert+ b/c of my play area. I live in a small house so my crowded room doesn't allowed for the best clearence, I always run the fear of hitting something with the max difficulty since you have to move so far so fast.
