PLEASE...
I dont want viruses on my expensive PC so I am not trusting ANY downloads that will let me play songs other people have made (like Despacito which i really wanna play). So please make there be a Steam Workshop someday because I dont trust some downloads.

you dont even have to actually download the songs yourself.

download the beatsaber mod manager program, you can find the link on beatsaver, com which is a 100% trustworthy site.

after that the manager downloads and installs the mods you want by itself, just like the workshop does.

then, you can download the songs directly from the menu in game.

its about the easiest game to mod there is.

custom songs will NEVER be on the workshop, because custom or not, it includes the actual copyrighted song in it, it is basically music filesharing. neither valve nor the dev can get involved in officially allowing that in any way.

I would love it if they added a workshop for this. I would feel safer getting songs of the workshop...

i dont understand why.

its no different from modding any other game.

modding existed long before the workshop, and most modding still happens without it.

its just as safe as downloading skyrim mods from the nexus.

ive downloaded thousands of mods in my life and never gotten a virus, or heard of anyone getting a virus from modding.

it is moot though, because again you will NEVER get songs off the workshop, it literally can not happen legally.

they could add workshop support for sabers, avatars, platforms, and other stuff probably, but never songs.

if they make a way to make maps seperate from songs, and have the game read songs off your harddrive seperately, then they could add just the beatmaps alone, without the song included, but that could be a mess, if your file is a split second off on timing compared to the beatmap somehow then it will be impossible.
Just know that viruses could even be included in workshop items lol.

While I agree that I would love there to be workshop support instead, the songs from the beatsaver website have been completely safe for me thus far (I thought I had alot of songs at about 150, until I saw the 3000+ comments ; ; ). And like others have stated, since the songs are copywrite material, unfortunately there will most likely never be workshop support for the custom songs. It's always nice to have a bit of healthy skepticism when it comes to download links on the internet, but thus far beatsaver.com has been pretty safe and reliable in regards to safety. If unsure, just scan them with antivirus as you get them and you'll be fine. Worst case scenario, just lie and say beatsaver is the official website from the devs for mods.

Well have fun playing no custom songs then, ever.

Having items on Workshop does not guarantees that the item is clean...
Steam doesn't do malware checks on every uploads on the workshop. unless people reported it as malicious.
Don't believe me? Google "Abstractism", a game that was pulled from the store because player found it has crypto miner.

If the source code is on github for everyone to see and it's received a lot of downloads, you can be sure it's safe. There's programmers who literally do it as a hobby and just go around reading other people's code, if it's unsafe it will get removed from Github once reported.

If the source code is NOT easily viewable, make sure the software has a valid certificate.

If the software is not easily viewable and has no valid certificate, then do your research and see if you can find enough credible downloaders to tell you if it's bad or not.

Or, if your virus scanner has a sandbox feature, you can open the software there. If it's bad, the scanner will remove it and the virus cannot leave the sandbox and will be destroyed.

Depending on how much the syetem cost, having a custom router with a firewall more advanced than most buisnesses like me would make more sense. (Then again my rig alone is worth $3000. My servers are worth a whole lot more than that. Dam DDR4 prices!)
