download the beatsaber mod manager program, you can find the link on beatsaver, com which is a 100% trustworthy site.
after that the manager downloads and installs the mods you want by itself, just like the workshop does.
then, you can download the songs directly from the menu in game.
its about the easiest game to mod there is.
custom songs will NEVER be on the workshop, because custom or not, it includes the actual copyrighted song in it, it is basically music filesharing. neither valve nor the dev can get involved in officially allowing that in any way.
i dont understand why.
its no different from modding any other game.
modding existed long before the workshop, and most modding still happens without it.
its just as safe as downloading skyrim mods from the nexus.
ive downloaded thousands of mods in my life and never gotten a virus, or heard of anyone getting a virus from modding.
it is moot though, because again you will NEVER get songs off the workshop, it literally can not happen legally.
they could add workshop support for sabers, avatars, platforms, and other stuff probably, but never songs.
if they make a way to make maps seperate from songs, and have the game read songs off your harddrive seperately, then they could add just the beatmaps alone, without the song included, but that could be a mess, if your file is a split second off on timing compared to the beatmap somehow then it will be impossible.
Despacito IS a virus :(

Steam doesn't do malware checks on every uploads on the workshop. unless people reported it as malicious.
Don't believe me? Google "Abstractism", a game that was pulled from the store because player found it has crypto miner.
If the source code is NOT easily viewable, make sure the software has a valid certificate.
If the software is not easily viewable and has no valid certificate, then do your research and see if you can find enough credible downloaders to tell you if it's bad or not.
Or, if your virus scanner has a sandbox feature, you can open the software there. If it's bad, the scanner will remove it and the virus cannot leave the sandbox and will be destroyed.
