Ancestors Legacy - Community Dedicated Servers
So, we released the dedicated server for every player who owns the game. I've noted down here some information that may be of use to you, should you decide to host a server on your own PC.

Requirements - Windows 7 with SP1 and above, 64bit only. If you can run the game, then your CPU is good enough to host at least a single match. You do not need a GPU at all. Steam must be turned off completely. Dedicated server is not a steam user and as such it logs in and hosts sessions in a completely different way. Steam Client enabled will interfere.

That means that you cannot host a dedicated server and play on the same PC in the same time.

You can find the build in Steam's "Library"->"Tools". Type in Ancestors Legacy Dedicated Server and you should see it in the list. Install.

Once you install the build, right click the tool name in the Tools, click "Properties" -> "Local Files" -> "Browse Local Files". You will notice several *.bat files, names "PublicDedicated_*****". Running those *.bat files (double click) is how you run the server. Upon launching your system may ask you to give firewall privilege to the application. Allow the server to pass through the firewall (otherwise nobody will ever join) and restart the application. Restart is not needed every time, just once when you give the firewall access.

You can host more than a single instance on the same machine, but you have to make sure that the ports specified inside the *.bat files are unique. The basic set we've prepared has all ports unique, so you can run every *.bat in the folder and it will be ok. If you want more 1v1's for example, simply duplicate the relevant *.bat file and change the ports. Please monitor the CPU usage when doing so, as the server will lag to players once your CPU usage reaches 95% and above.

Please realize that router and firewall setup on your system are crucial to get right, in order for such a server to work properly. This is not a "typical user" application, it's much closer to a "professionals who know what they're doing" application. Start with required ports for steam and if needed verify with these guides:
After that, make sure that every port used in the *.bat that you are trying to run is also added to firewall exceptions for the dedicated server application. Both inbound and outbound.

Once the basic setup is finished and you can see your own server in the game's Server Browser the last thing you can do is change the server setup. Inside the *.bat files there's a short instruction with available commands that alter the map setup. Basically everything that you can set up on your own when hosting a server regularly through the game.

Please note, that the server sometimes needs several minutes before showing up in the game's Server Browser. This happens due to Steam Servers sometimes delaying processing of requests and is something we are unable to fix or change.

increible! why all this work for play?

There are many reasons people use dedicated servers for many games. If you browse the Tools section for the word "dedicated" there's a lot of it.

One of use cases is that you want to host a match with your settings, but do not want to have your PC process server stuff while playing - it reduces your FPS. When you have 2 machines, one hosts a dedicated machine and on the other one you play - you're just a client and since the server is so close to you, the ping is very good.

Thanks for responding but I still don't understand, for example: why company of heroes, what is a similar game, is it easy and comfortable to play a multiplayer game?
Do you know that this game would be a resounding success if you could play multiplayer?

Uhm, you can play multiplayer. You could since the release. This game has multiplayer support since day 1. We're just releasing an additional way to host matches

I read everywhere that it is very difficult to find a game online
and I also tried the game and there was no room ...

There are times when there's nobody to play with, especially during a week when people work. People play in different time zones. You can always host a game yourself and wait for someone to join or get in touch with the community through Steam group and friends or our Discord server.

How do you get to the mod editor or whatever it's called

(really appreciate it by the way)

good people, I assume I lost hope that this improves
I do not like some mechanics of the game (firework or molotov endless to the efficiency that I see very unreal) but especially because it might be that you enter a multiplayer game and only see 1 possible game, developers on the one hand deny that it is one problem but on the other they look for alternative solutions.
game with great potential but unfortunately it will not happen that in my opinion

Check workshop discussion board. There are pinned threads that describe multiple things as well as link to guides and documentation that you may need to get a mod working.

We do realize that not as many people play the game as used to. However please be aware that the matches you see in the server browser are lobbies only. Matches that are currently in progress are not shown there.

Are the dedicated server files available via SteamCMD?

If not, please release the files via SteamCMD!

`That means that you cannot host a dedicated server and play on the same PC in the same time.`

Do you think it would work if the dedicated server was a virtual machine running on the same host you are using to play?
If the dedicated server is not showing up in the server browser, is that an indication of a port issue with the host machine's firewall & router?
