Portal 2

How do I remove a portal without shooting it somewhere else?
On Test Chamber Junkie and some other places I have seen Portals removed using a macro on the mouse, does anyone know how to do this?

Go to settings and bind a key to do it

There is no option to remove portals in the settings

There never was a remove portal setting. I've owned portal 2 since December 2012. I pretty much like the graphics but it takes a little while to calculate the lightning when I wanna test my testchambers before I publish them.

*slow clap* great way to get totally off topic, man, it must be hard to go from not having a setting to remove portals to taking a while to calculate lighting. props. *hands trophy*

If you enter the command "bind x prop_portal 'setactivatedstate 0'" that should make the x key destroy all portals. If you use "bind x !picker 'setactivatedstate 0'" that'll only destroy portals you're looking at directly. You can change x to be any character.

I know how to make it delete all portals, but how do I say, make the x key delete the blue portal, and m delete the orange portal?

The correct command is :
bind "r" "ent_fire prop_portal fizzle"
. bind x prop_portal 'setactivatedstate 0 will do nothing. You can replace the "r" for whatever key you want, I just think it's the most convenient.

I messed that command up. It should be (bind x "ent_fire !picker setactivatedstate 0"), which does do the same thing as the Fizzle input.

You cant. just place a portal and go through a fizzler or just deal with it.

Since the portal entities you create have no names, the ent_fire prop_portal <whatever> acts on all portal entities in the world. Meaning you can't really do this.
A hack I can think of, though it's level-based inside Hammer, is using the editor, bind a user's key using a console command, or just make a standard button do it, to open a named orange portal somewhere in the map, then close that orange portal. That would remove the player's portal.

some test chambers actually require you not to be able to remove specific portals with the touch of a button, because it's part of the puzzle
