Portal 2

I wish I never knew about Elysium Fields.
Now I keep thinking Chell died at the end of the game when she first encounters the turrets on the elevator. I guess it still fits with the whole Greek mythology theme and how we may never see the character again for a Portal 3 aside from a cameo maybe.

She didn't die at the end of the game, the creators confirmed it. Also, the ending is NOTHING like Greek mythology. I know that's somewhat of a theme in the game but the ending is just not part of it.

Let's leave aside that the creators confirmed that she's alive for a moment. Here's why it's nothing like Greek mythology:

1) The singing turrets are totally unrelated. In Greek mythology Charon brings you into the underworld. You're not serenaded by anything.

2) Let's assume there ARE things that sing you into the Underworld in Greek mythology (BTW, if it IS Greek mythology kind of odd that she's going upward when the Underworld is downward). The singing turrets serenading her would imply that she's going into the place of Paradise, right? The Elysian Fields.

The problem is a wheat field is nothing like the Elysian Fields. Here's a description of the Elysian Fields (also called the Isles of the Blessed) from the Greek poet Hesiod:

"And they live untouched by sorrow in the islands of the blessed along the shore of deep-swirling Ocean, happy heroes for whom the grain-giving earth bears honey-sweet fruit flourishing thrice a year, far from the deathless gods, and Cronos rules over them"

Where Chell goes, there is no ocean and no honey sweet fruit.

3) Let's be REALLY generous to this theory and assume that, despite the singing turrets, she's actually going to the Fields of Asphodel, also known as the Asphodel Meadows. Perhaps they're thinking of this because the Asphodel Meadows are thought to be a place of utter neutrality for those who live an unremarkable life. Since there is only wheat, it is thought to be the afterlife-a wheat field forever.

There's a problem: The Asphodel Meadows aren't covered in wheat. They're covered in a flower called asphodel. This is what asphodel looks like:http://literaturecouture.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/asphodel-flower.jpg

That looks NOTHING like the field that Chell is in at the end of the game. Sorry, the theory doesn't hold up.

Now Chell may have died AFTER she got out of Aperture Science alive, but that's not in the game. I guess fans can think what they want to. I like to think she survived though, don't you?

chell won't be in portal 3 this is my opinion i think portal 3 would be about the robots trying to kill GLaDOS i think that will be portal 3

The Elyisum fields are the fields of wheat. Because to chell that is heavn it is freedom she no longer has the threat of death be placed on her.

Honestly, i don't like the chances of there being a portal 3. Valve wrapped it up and there is a great possibility that by unwraping it there would be alot of disaproval by fans. there is no need for another game, although we may think we want one...

No they're not. Not at all. They never were. Who on Earth told you that? There ARE no fields of wheat in the ancient Greek underworld.

I think Portal 3 is a possibility. There's always more room for GLaDOS.

It could be a prequel like they originally wanted for Portal 2, but didn't that idea get changed into a new project?

IF a Portal 3 were to exist, I'd prefer to see it take place in the outside world than back at the Aparture Science labs. Half-Life 2 wasn't about Gordon Freeman being put back into Black Mesa all over again, and Valve are creative enough types to come up with something equally as memorable but in a completely different theme. Say, going through the ruins of civilization alone and without enemies, looking for the truth behind what happened, maybe?

Sorry let me clear me some things up for some who do not under stand me, the Elyisum fields are being symbolized by the wheat fields. Valves connection to greek mytholgy is all based by symbolizim.
And I don't thnk there will be a Portal 3 but we will most likely find out about the end of Glados and Apeture if Valve makes a Half Life 3. The only reason I think they well make a Half Life 3 is because Apetures boat, The Borials was kind of one of the main foucus in Half Life 2 Ep. 2.

Well, there's no reason to not make a Portal 3 as a sort of quiet, exploration-based first-person game with no enemies. It could even go into "Metroidvania" territory by featuring a backtracking element and introducing inactive machines that can be returned to later in the game.

That really makes no sense. For one thing, the symbolism doesn't work on any other levels either. For another, wheat doesn't symbolize ocean.

Face it, the ending has nothing to do with Greek mythology. Nothing.
