Portal 2
Play Portal 1 or skip to 2?
I got the bundle for Portal 1 and 2 from a trade and I was wondering if there was a storyline linking both games. I heard that Portal 2 is like portal 1 but with better graphics and way more levels. So should I play portal 1 first or should I just play portal 2? I have a huge backlog of games I need to play and a bunch of work from school so I don't exactly have a bunch of free time to waste.

I think you should play portal 1 not too many levels and it help the storyline in part 2.
So is there a storyline between both games or is portal 2 completely new story to portal 1?
Play them both. Portal one is extremely short and the story in Portal 2 picks up where Portal 1 left off.
Well, you DID buy both of them. There really is NO reason Not to play Portal first (before Portal 2). Besides, Portal kinda teaches you how to use the gun (not that much of a tutorial is needed, really, but there isn't anything like it in Portal 2 - it is assumed that you are already capable of Thinking With Portals before you begin the game).

I traded a game for the bundle and I really only wanted portal 2. So how much hours does it take to complete portal 1?

Whoever told you it's "like portal 1 but with better graphics and way more levels" is an absolute idiot, and they know nothing about single player games. Portal is, OBVIOUSLY, the first game, and Portal 2 being the second. Would you play Half-Life 2 without playing Half-Life first? Nope. Because they 'join stories.'
portal doesnt seem like theres a story in it, don't you just play the levels?

You have to listen to GLaDOS. Anyway, it's your choice.
Well if portal 1 is as short as people say I might as well play it first :)
You really should play Portal before Portal 2
a) it gives you a feel for gameplay and story style
b) Portal 2 makes more sense if you've played one
c) The first game is still very, very good

I was in the same boat as you, and my friends told me to play the first one. I really enjoyed it and felt more accomplished when I finished Portal 2 as well.
Plus you'll have no idea why the cake is a lie. (Unless they cover that in 2, I have heard no mention of cake in 2 yet.)
play portal 1 first then you know what hapent at the end of portal 1 and at the begin of portal 2
play portal 1 and then portal 2
DEFINITELY play Portal 1 first. Not only because of the story, but it will help you get familirised with the whole concept.
Portal is a short game timewise, but it adds much to the whole-encompassing story, you get to be the protagonist and discover the enrichment center, immerse yourself in the storyline that takes you from being... just another test subject to well... that's for you to play through. Once you've reached Portal 2 there's a lot to re-discover as once again you "run the maze".
portal 1 has a good story too
and different puzzles

the energy pellet isnt in portal 2
If u want to get full storyline you must play 1. THEN read the comic Lab Ratt(OR watch this 15min. screening[awesome]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=539oNONcCrI). Then you can play portal 2 with clear conscience!
