Portal 2
Is Portal 2 a first person shooter or RPG puzzle?
My friend absolutely hates first person shooters, but love Portal 2. I told him (or her for secrecy) it was a FPS. He complains it's a RPG puzzle. So I ask the Steam Community on this subject.

not really a fps.. more like a first person strategy puzzle or something
Well, the first person part is true, indefinitly, but the shooter part is the portal gun.

Sorry, pal, this isn't an FPS. It's not an RPG Puzzle either.
It's a first person puzzle game, I think you both need to check for the signs:
1. FPS let players use guns that shoot bullets. This is a necessary condition.
2. RPG have levels that affect your play. This is a necessary condition.
When neither is satisfied, neither is true. The game is definately a puzzle game, it is definately first person, therefore it must be a third person racing game!

Are you sure? Could be a second person mind blown game.

Actually, no, I'm lying, sorry about that. This game is a fourth person point and click adventure. Well, this is awkward.

It's neither. It's a problem-solving-portal-somthing-game.

Or not. I mean, one can't really say for certain.
Maybe it's a work that defines its own genre?

It's a one-of-kind kind of game.

Well, granted, two-of-a-kind, after all this is Portal 2....

In my opinion Portal 2 is kind of a hybrid ( FPS + Puzzle ) like Sanctum ( FPS + TD )

It's a problem solving kind of game that enhances one's initiative and such i think?

I'd say HL2 was FPS + Puzzle. Portal 2 is pretty much Puzzle only.
