You have to switch off the cinemaview for non-vrgames in steam too. did you try this?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I didn't see any good Google hits for cinemaview and steam. The search did mention Desktop Game Theatre, and I tried disabling it, but it didn't do any good.

I figured it out. It had to do with the way windows unzipped the zip file. When I unzipped it, it created a "Portal2VR" folder in the base Portal 2 installation folder, which messed everything up. But when you just extract the bin, poratl2_dlc3, and VR folders in the base base Portal 2 installation folder, it starts in VR.

you have to turn on 6DOF in the config. Should be in the VR folder.

Some tips for using the new VR mod:

1. Change "SnapTurning" and 6DOF" to "true" in the config file (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Portal 2\VR\config.txt)

2. Install the latest version of the mod to be able to access the menu in-game
3. Press down on the left thumbstick to recenter your view
4. Make sure the game is the active window on your desktop, otherwise you may get stuttering and/or no audio

Using the valve wands I can only create blue portals - there doesn't seem to be button assigned to create orange ones - anyone got them working?

Should be grip
