Caroline is Cave Johnson's assistant. At one point in time Cave Johnson buys $70,000,000 worth of moon rocks, and then grinds them up into a gel, which he contracts a fever from. Knowing he would soon die, he orders his scientists to work on artificial intelligence(AI). His final order is 'If I die before you can pour me into a computer, I want Caroline to take my place. Now, she'll argue, she'll say she isn't qualified, but just tell her I wanted her to take over this company.' That probably wasn't what he said word for word, but I can't remember it perfectly. Well, you can guess that Caroline took over, but when she died, the scientists transfered her intelligence into a computer. If you haven't guessed yet, that was GLaDOS.

The last part was right,but wrong. GLaDOS refused to let the brain go inside of her, so Caroline's soul took over GLaDOS instead.Let me start at the beginning. After Portal Project was a success, and Cave and Caroline were married, no one was thinking of testing the chambers so Cave and Caroline thought of having a baby, Chell, the main character, and used her for a test subject until Cave decided to give $60 more than $60.

And he was still rich, so anyways, he was dieing like Craftminerlx24 said, and what I said before too, and why GLaDOS hates you, is because C.John put himself in a turret, and the different turret is him! And GLaDOS noticed that her husband was in a turret and different and would ruin the Portal Project she got so mad because she never seen in in years, she decides to incinerate him, and putting that anger onto you because she never wanted you anymore because she thought Chell was like Cave, thats why she wants to kill you. The end.

There is no source because all of that is wrong. None of that is said anywhere in the game. Not to mention, it's genetically impossible for Chell to be Cave and Caroline's child, since Chell's a different race from them.
