I can confirm that the PS3 co-op for Portal 2 isn't working at all, and hasn't been working for quite a while. It's immensely frustrating, especially for those of us chasing the last few co-op achievements/trophies. The connection issue is on Valve's end; the hacking issue was resolved by Sony Playstation separately and all the friends I've tried with have had a perfect connection to Playstation Network (PSN).
Thank you! So, what can we do? Steam is just ignoring my messages... Maybe you can try writing to the support team?
I've never had to go through Steam Support before, so I'm not sure where to start in getting assistance from them. But it couldn't hurt to try, maybe I'll give it a shot over the next few days.
On a separate note, I have heard/read in a few random places that even though PS3-PS3 Portal 2 co-op doesn't work, a PS3-PC connection functions fairly normally. So it might be true that the issue isn't totally Valve's fault, there could just be a combination of problems preventing PSN and Steam from working together simultaneously.
The problem is I am a comletionist and I want to get the platinum trophy. If I'd known that this game's internet is BROKEN because of the terrible working Steam (on PS3), I would have never bought that game for ps3 as I have already played it on pc before. I liked it and wanted the game for my ps3 collection but it just disappointed me.
I know how you feel because I use to go mad for the trophies on PS3 till I got my PC 3 years ago. I stopped collecting because my steam library is massive and some of the games I couldn't enjoy enough to warrant going for all the achievements, hope you find a work around though :(
I've actually decided to use a secondary Steam account with Portal 2 purchased on it as a work-around. Secondary account on PC, primary on PS3 for "Professor Portal" and one piece of "Friends List With Benefits."
When was it? Did it work? I mean PS3-PC Connection.
Establishing a connection between my PC and PS3 worked flawlessly! I was able to get Professor Portal and Friends List With Benefits by myself via two different accounts two days ago, giving me the Portal 2 Platinum trophy. A little more work than I bargained for, but it was a relatively simple process.
So, just to confirm, you CAN get the Portal 2 trophies related to the friends list through a PC-PS3 co-op connection, as long as the PSN account that you want to receive the trophies is on the PS3 side. Both trophies are obtainable using Steam friends who are not on PSN.
got professor portal trophy 1h ago
Well, bro, that's some good news!
I tried that method three weeks ago, this is my secondary Steam account - primary is Dante-Med on ps3.
But I just could not connect - the loading just stucks on 1 blue bar on my PC and on PS3 it said 'Your partner disconnected'. I tried using different PCs and tried to connect to other players but it didn't work. So maybe there is some problem with my network connection? But it works just fine with the ohter games. I dunno...
Btw, did you use 1 internet connection for both PS3 and PC (I mean is it wi-fi on ps3)?
Cool man. Then I'll try getting it too!
Yes, my PC and PS3 were both running through the same wi-fi connection. Surprisingly, there was almost no lag even though our wi-fi isn't top-notch.
I've contacted my ISP, Sony, and my modem';s manufacturer all had were patient to look into the issue. I've sent Steam 3 messages and have not had one answered.
