Disable in-game voice chat

One thing that has always bothered me about Portal 2's in-game voice chat is how it takes precedence over Steam voice chat. Anyone know a method to disable it so it doesn't interfere with Steam's voice chat at all?

Some things that don't work:
-Disabling voice chat in Portal 2's option menu
-Setting sv_voiceenable to 0

It's a bit of a nuisance as it takes control of the mic regardless of my in-game mic setting and occasionally forgets to release it back after a coop session.

I don't want to hear my friend's awful voices in my home theatre, I want to heard them in my headset. And In-game chat doesn't work when loading a new level.

None, unfortunately. Only solution really is to use a 3rd party. I've found myself using TeamSpeak more because Steam's voice chat is extremely limited in a number of ways.

Type in the console status. Say your Dude1 and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ squeaker is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. You will be number one if you're the host. He will be 2. Type in console voice_mute 2.
And hes muted.

Try to use voice_enable 1 / 0 in the games console. Worked for me , but still Portal messing up with microphone settings.

The topic is how to disable in-game voice chat so you can use discord instead, server host types these lines and everything will be a ok

you actually have to bind your console in settings and type it in there

enable "Developer Console" in options and should open with " ` " key above the "Tab" button.
voice_enable 0 should work aswell

settings > keyboard/mouse > Developer Console > Enable.
Go into game > Press ´ key (if it doesn't work, change in keybind settings) > type "voice_mute 1" for player one and "voice_mute 2" for player 2 (and so on)
