so, i just bought the game...
...and wanted to play coop with my better half. we booted up the game, entered the first level (training) and are already stuck because of a bug. after some research i found out that this particular bug has been known since 04-28-2011 (first post i found from someone who reported it).
can someone explain to me how on earth a bug that has been known for so long in the FIRST level of the game wasnt fixed yet ?
well i fear of things to come to be honest and stopped playing, next time (if there is one) i will be more carefull what i spend my hard earned money on, even if it was just 9 euros.

So what bug was it you were talking about? Maybe someone here can provide a solution. I haven't encountered any bugs with Portal for over 3 years and I've been playing since day one...

Co-Op Bug: Panel door will not open on training level. (if you google this you will find the forum entry from 2011 talking about it). There is already a solution mentioned on the forums, restart the level from scratch, but that was not my point.
My point was, if there is already a bug in the first level which is known to exist for around 4 years and wasnt fixed, what other gamebreaking (and yes, it was gamebreaking since we couldnt go on without restarting) bugs will there be ? Thanks, but no thanks...

Thanks for trying to help thou, appreciated.

What games have you played that are entirely free of bugs? To go straight from "I will play this game I recently purchased for 9 euros" to "I shall not play this game I recently purchased for 9 euros" without even getting past the first level seems slightly odd to me. I understand if you have high standards for gaming but this sounds a bit over the top.

"entirely free of bugs"...probably none. a game with a gamebreaking bug in the first level that exists for years already ? i cant recall any game in recent memory that pulled such a stunt on me.
my "standards for gaming" arent actually that high since i did quite a bit of modding in both Sykrim and Fallout (using mods, not writing them), so yeah, anyone that knows how to mod those games also knows you need to have alot of patience and a thick skin when it comes to bugs....
If my reaction seems a bit "over the top" for you then thats fine, i however thinks its perfectly adequate.

Its not just him I find it OTT as well... As I said I have been playing this game since day one and I have helped many a player start and finish coop and I have NEVER encountered that bug. Are you sure you completed the calibration course properly? Didn't skip any part using noclip - or didn't glitch through as I have seen some people do... Both of those can really stuff up the game...

again, thanks for trying to help but i am pretty sure we didnt do any wonky stuff to cause it to bug out, seems i am just that unlucky one in a million to have encountered it.
as i said in my first post, i was just looking for an explanation how something like this is even possible in a game as old (in a good way) and popular as portal 2, like "oh its full of bugs, dont mind that little one at the start" or "its a well known bug but developers clearly said they wont fix it because that would break this or that" or something along those lines...

I still don't understand. Wwere you both standing at the panel? Have you seen a walkthrough (not cheating because you haven't done any puzzles yet)? hich panel? Was there any more GLaDOS dialogue? Can't you just skip to level 2? So many questions!

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
