Underground elevators as seen in The Fall & The Reunion
Normal Elevator as seen in the rest of the game
Escape Lift as when wheatley takes over. He calls a escape lift. It's different from the normal one but still looks like it.
I ask myself, why is that escape lift for? Why isn't it using the same elevator as in the rest of the game: normal one?
If you go to Gmod -> Games > Portal 2 > props
you will find portal 1 props. Some of them have missing textures unless you have portal 1 already.
If you're asking why the escape look different (slightly as its coloured yellow). Its so you subconscious reconise that this elevator searves a different function from the other elevators that you have visitied from the previous portion of the game.
If we talk about colour theory the colour of the elevator serves a function, as mentioned before illustrates its serves a different function. It also draws the player in as it's constrast against the black and white mostly found in that room and draws your eyes signifying that this is the player's goal to reach the elevator.
I hope this answers you're question...
The first time it's used is where wheatley's calling the escape lift
The second time it's used is at the ending glados scene. It's easy to notice.
I know, sorry, I was just putting it in the simplest terms I could.
Someone else please answer...
They use 5-6 elevators (including behind the scenes lift as the escape) so the theme can be applied to them, for example:
The normal elevator's 2 doors prevent viewing in front, that's why they use escape lift
The underground elevator so it can be themed within the enrichment spheres
The Behind the Scenes lift (seen also in underground) so it can be themed on what's been in the background of aperture (outside the chambers, to understand).
The normal elevator is in the chamberlocks also in PeTI. Except for underground
And I think that's it.
