Half Life Universe - Event Timeline + More (with explainations)

Half Life takes place in 2000. This is when the Black Mesa incident happens. And in the same year (May 2000 to be exact) GLaDOS takes over Aperture Laboratories. Cave Johnson dies somewhere around 1986 (maybe later) and in the same year scientists start working on GLaDOS. He can't have died before 1986 because he, himself talked about scientists working on GLaDOS. You know, after the lemon rant... Let's insert another chapter here; Cave created the company in 1943, as a shower curtain manufacturer labeled "Aperture Fixtures". Later he turned the company into a science research center, while buying a salt mine to build the facility in. He was into big ♥♥♥♥ then. In 1952, we know that everything has happenned, along with the 3 experiments, the 2 failed ones and the Aperture Science Quantum Tunneling Device success. In around 1970 the company started to fail miserably. Instead of Astronauts, War Heroes or Olympians, test subjects were now homeless people taken from the street, thus PAYING them. Later, in the early 1980's test participation was made mandatory for all employees, the company had now gone bankrupt, and Cave KNEW it. Like it wasn't all enough, after buying $7,000,000 worth of moon rocks and grinding them up, Cave fell ill just because of them. And that's why scientists began working on A.I. Cave also forced them to put Caroline into the system instead of him if he dies before he witnesses his dream; cheating death. The company, as I stated before, went BOOM (not literally, this would happen later. Blame WHEATLEY!) in 2000...

Portal takes place in 2012. Why? Valve said that Portal takes place 12 years after Portal and Half Life's events. Well, maths. 2000 + 12 = 2012, right? And also that's when the combine invaded, in 2012, during Portal's events, explaining GLaDOS' words; "What's going on out there will make you wish you were back in here". We all know that Chell is put into an Extended Relaxation Center, saved by Doug Rattmann, only to be awakened 2 times. The first one being in 50 days from that time. The second one being far away into the future.

But how far into the future is the second awakening? Chell wakes up greeted by the Anouncer, only to hear that she had been asleep for (insert millioins of 9's here) days. The question is, how many 9's are heard? If you listen to the sound file without all this music, and Wheatley and destruction sounds interrupting you, you may hear that the announcer repeats the number 9 infinitely, behind the normal recording. And that's a ton of nines. But there is a pause between every five nines, and you can actually hear it in the first bunch of nines. So, that means that either 99999 days have passed since the first awakening or the system FAILS to calculate the time, so it is WAYY MORE time than 99999 days. I'm gonna go with the first theory, just because it's more accurate and easier to calculate. Just do 99999 / 365 and have an approximate result. And that is 274 with some rounding. So, there you have it. 274 which is apparently the year 2286. Either that, or WAY LATER. But again, I'm gonna go with the 2286 theory.
