did it. I'm trying to find a tutorial, but the only one I've found has been an unclear tutorial intended for Portal 1 which made me download a program then look for a file that doesn't exist. Somehow LB was able to figure it out from that tutorial, but I wish he'd make a video tutorial on how he actually did it. It's been so long since he might not completely remember though.
I'm still following it myself, so I can't say for sure if it'll work, but it seems pretty promising, so I hope this helps everyone out.

Well, even if it doesn't help the original poster, it can help others, since
when I searched for "changing portal colors portal 2" or whatever I was I searched, this was the first thing that came up. Figured the first thing that came up shoud have an answer to the original question, right? (Though I didn't notice the post was 4 years old, still GLaD I did it though.)
