Can't pass gesture part of Co-op
My boyfriend and I are trying to play Portal 2, and we can't get past the part where the both of you are supposed to gesture towards each other. Whenever he presses 'Q' to gesture, the radial menu comes up but his movement doesn't freeze and he's able to still move around his camera, rather than being able to move the arrow to the gesture in the gesture menu. I'm sorry if I'm wording this weird; it's a bit hard to describe.
I'm able to gesture normally, but he isn't. We aren't using splitscreen, either. He tried uninstalling the game and that didn't help. He is using a mouse and the controller is disabled.
We'd appreciate any assistance.

This happens every time? He has to HOLD Q and move his mouse curser to the gesture he wants to make.

He was holding it down. While he's in the radial menu holding Q, he's still able to move his camera around and look around him rather than being able to pick a gesture.

Was he moving his mouse to move the menu? The menu scrolls by your mouse. You shouldn't be able to move with the mouse. That's the ASDW keys.

Sounds to me like he thought you use the menu with your ASWD keys.

I meant moving the camera around, my apologies. His mouse moves his camera around when he's on the radial menu rather than the actual menu itself.

Have you tried switching the role of player 1 and 2? Make your boyfriend host, or you host. I believe player 1 has to do the gesture, then Player 2 has to do the point gesture.

I honestly can't see a reason why it wouldn't work. I'd try using the controller instead of the mouse to see if that helps.

Other than that, try playing with someone else? See if this issue occurs on him or you.

If it's the same bug we had it is due to you having a controller plugged in. When my partner switched to the controller it worked fine. And playing without controller worked fine too.

Any progress Gurochi? Having the same problem here. Switching players, hosts etc .. no help
both computers are near one another so i can see while testing ... without controller same issue. with controller same issue. Play portal 2 single player fine. Not sure what else to try.

Resolved: (for me anyway) while the game is CLOSED, disconnect any controllers and in my case any other devices. Once started with NO controllers plugged in, Q should work. My offending device seems to have been my kindle ... go figure.

Our problem was resolved. We're not sure how we fixed it, but his gesture works now for some reason. Thank you for the help.
