Prometheus (and Greek in general) Easter Eggs (you will want to read this one)
Before you read, know that there are a few minor spoilers I will reveal.

Anyone notice the things that portal 2 has in common with the legend of promethius? The easter eggs? Lets take a quick look:

First, before I get to the good stuff, backround... The greek legend:
Prometheus was a titan in greek mythology who made the "mistake" of giving the gift of fire to man. To punish him, Zeus chained him to a rock and pecked by birds for eternity. This was after he spared Prometheus from Tartarus because he hadn't fought with the titans during the titan war. Look it up (In some versions, however, Prometheus IS cast into tartarus. 4200 meters down.)

1. The fall
While prometheus isn't thrown into tarturus, Chell was. Technically. If you walk around down in the bottom of the pit where Wheatly throws you, one of the taller buildings right before the enterance to Aperture Science Inovators has a sign on it saying "Tartarus" and then some numbers. Either the area was named Tartarus be Cave Johnson, or its the Tartarus testing track. I prefer the former.

2. The Birds
A very obvious motif throughout both game modes, birds eat GLaDOS the rome where you find her again as a potato, again when Wheatly is attacked by them in one of the test chambers, still again when Atlas and P-body save the facility in the last part of the co-op mode ect. You get it.

3. Atlas
Atlas, the short and fat robot from co-op, is named after Prometheus' brother, Atlas. :3

4. A bit more obscure: P-Body
I quote from an article: "Epimetheus (another greek character, Prometheus' other titan brother) is an obscure character. All you need to know about him is that Zeus punished him for his sporadic behavior. P-Body's defining characteristic is that he can't keep still."
If you listen to the commentary tracks for Portal 2 they explain that P-Body is always twitching to keep balanced.

5. Quotes+Referances
"Aristotle vs. Mashy spike plate" "Comedy equals tragedy plus time" Aristotle wrote the second quote. He's a greek philosopher

6. The fall (again)
Chell falls 4200 meters into Aperture Science Innovators, same distance Prometheus fell. (look at the walls as you fall).

7. The fact sphere
"Pants were invented by sailors in the 16th century to avoid Poseidon's wrath. It was believed that the sight of naked sailors angered the sea god."
"In Greek myth, the craftsman Daedalus invented human flight so a group of Minotaurs would stop teasing him about it."
AND FINNALY -------> "In Greek myth, Prometheus stole fire from the Gods and gave it to humankind. The jewelry he kept for himself."

8. Even more obscure: Caroline's deletion
I quote "GLaDOS lack of hindsight can be seen in the ending where when even after learning a leason decides to delete Caroline anyways, and Prometheus being of course the Titan of foresight."

9. Well... I was going to make 10 so #9 doesnt actually exist. Here's some notes instead: There is tons of junk out there about Greek Mythology and portal 2, and it has been confirmed that the connection exists. I descided to only include references that were actually in the game, but I did cheat a bit when I found some really obscure ones that I liked. Oh well. Im writing this, not a perfectionist. I'll leave the weird ones to the comments. Anywhoo, the last one, the best one, #10 is right here! HERE IT COMES! ITS ALMOST HERE! I CAN ALMOST TASTE IT.....!

10. The turrett of spoilers.
When you escape GLaDOS with Wheatly, you run accross some convayer belts at one point carrying distroyed turrests. If you wait on the second one fro a bit, a turrett that is still alive rolls by. Pick it up. It says "Thank you... Get Mad... Don't make lemonade... Prometheus was punished by the gods by giving the gift of knowledge to man... He was cast into the bowels of the earth and pecked by birds... It won't be enough... The answer is beneath us... Her name is Caroline; Remember that... That's all I can say." Get it? Look through those. All of them have to do with stuff later in the story, but the only one we care about is the part where the turret tells you the story of prometheus. WOW. Side note: that turret was seen before in the story. It was the one that you pass with Wheatly early on in the story that Wheatly tells you not to make eye contact with. It's right before the part where GLaDOS wakes up.

THANKS for reading. If people like this enough I may do future posts on Portal 2 easter eggs and pehaps even some other games. Bye for now! -A.H.

another thing you have to look at is the fact that GLaDOS gives you the gift of the hand held portal device=fire. Therefor, remember this part, "I Did this, TINY WHEATLEY DID THIS!" here comes GLaDOS's line, "No you didnt! She did all the work." GLaDOS's punishment, for ALSO helping (helping as in giving chell the gun in the first place) was being put into a potato= Chained to a rock. Later, being pecked by birds. He also threw her 4200 meters into tartarus just like zeus did to prometheus.(in some versions) but exactly! In some versions of the legend, prometheus wasnt cast into tartarus, just like the fact that even if GLaDOS wasnt thrown into the pit, being pecked by birds would still happen, and would still be a living hell.
Go ahead, say im wrong, but you never know who all can be right.
