Why is my portal 2 at 6 FPS!? (New Findings)

Over the last 3 days, my fps has gotten worse. Yesterday it was at 8, and now its at 6! I've verified game integrity, ive uninstalled and installed it, and I put my graphics at the minimum. It uses the most cpu, and I've tried making more space, but nothing. Nothing works! Please help, I am starting to go insane.

My current launch options: -mat_dxlevel 70 -fps_max 120

Update : It isnt portal 2 now. Yesterday the rest of my games ran at around 300 fps, but now they're down to 6 as well. Plus, when I tab out, the game just casually jumps back up to 60... why the hell is this happening
Yet another update : Apparently when im not at my native resolution in windowed mode, it'll run at up to 200. I don't really care if its 300, all i care is that its more than 8. even 12fps is ok for me

there could be a couple of fixes, turning down graphics (womp womp i know its annoying), restarting your computer, and seeing if theres a new graphics driver availible and if so installing it, turn computer settings to fast (it takes more power tho) and closing backround tasks. hope this helps

and if that doesnt work, you *COULD* factory reset your pc, but if you do, you *WILL* have to sign into *EVERYTHING* again, its more of a last resort, but if its a really big of a problem i reccomend it

check the clocks of your graphics card with GPU-Z when running games to see if they raise when playing. maybe they remain as in idle and thats causing the low fps.

all in all its sounds as if your GPU is acting weird and maybe broken
