Portal 2 ending leaves me stuck on a black screen. How do I fix this bug?

At the end after Wheatley flies through space and says his apology, the screen blacks out for me. I don't return to the main menu screen. I know I am supposed to get a new menu screen that shows wheatley flying through space. But when I force close the game because I'm stuck and reopen the game, I end up with a main menu screen inside the factory with one of those broken cubes / robot monsters.

I've read other postings on this bug and so far I've tried
- changing my window from full screen to windowed
- lowering all the graphics settings from high to low
- disabling vertical sync
- running the steam file quality checker (checking files for any corruption)

When I open developer tab while the ending is occuring, the last error I see pop up is:
FCVAR_CLIENTCMD_CAN_EXECUTE prevented running command: disconnect

And then I tested typing in 'disconnect', and I end up still not going back to main screen. Instead, it says I am disconnected from server and that's it.

even if u do get the screen playing portal again or a specfic level just changes the screen again not worth worrying about

I was thinking there might be a special title screen after winning the game, like in portal 1. But I never did find out.
Something funny, When I was alot younger, I didn't have much money at all so I pirated portal 1. Then I installed it and it was all in french. So I played through the game in a language I did not know. Hilarious.
But now I am on this screen for talking about Portal two, and I see that there are several buttens and descriptions written in French. Just below this box I see Publier le commentair, and next to it Aide au formatage. And above it is a check box S'abonner a la discussion.
Other things are french, which I find a funny reminder of my first portal play through.
