gameinfo.txt does not exist

so i uninstalled portal 2 and downloaded it again and i opened it, then a "gameinfo.txt does not exist "message shows up, then i tried to re install it, id didn't work, help

on my win 11 (have no idea what you are running), gameinfo.txt is in folder
...\steam\steamapps\common\Portal 2\portal2

deleted the file, ran steam verify game files, steam reinstalled it.
IF that is the one your error msg refers to.

go to folder
...\steam\logs
look in file content_log.txt .... steam installl/verify works on my win 11 desktop

what does your log say it did with the file?
