Portals look strange?

Ever since I first got Portal 2, I've noticed that my portals look diferent as opposed to my friends'. My friends' portals look like what you would expect, the cool, high-resolution, firey-looking stuff. Mine, on the other hand, look like the opaque portal (the one that you can see when you've only placed one portal) with a cheap, twelve-sided hole cut in the middle.

This is a really annoying issue, I love the look of the regular portals. I have no idea why it's happening, and from what I've found, very VERY few people (that's an estimate, maybe nobody has had it before) have had this problem. Help would be appreciated. :)

try changing your graphics settings. I had a similar problem and changing them from high to medium changed it. You probley have to do something similiar.

Nope, didn't seem to work. I changed model/texture/effect/shader detail in a variety of combinations, nothing seemed to work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

try to uninstall the game, then reinstall it. That's what I do when there's something wrong with a game.

Alright, I'll try reinstalling it as soon as I get home, I just went on vacation. I haven't tried reinstalling it yet because I figured it probably wouldn't fix the problem but it's worth a shot.

Uninstalling then reinstalling didn't do the trick, but thanks for the suggestion.

Did you try "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". It may help.

I've tried "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" multiple times, it said nothing was wrong.

Maybe it's got something to do with your graphics card or pc speed then?

Yeah, probably. I also have problems with Portal 1 when I run on DirectX 9, they're just completely opaque. If you need me to post my specs then I will.
