coop-campaign is a different story than a singleplayer mode - totally different characters, puzzles and setting, so if you start coop-campaign first you don't ruin anything and will enjoy singleplayer later. there are might be the minor spoilers/lore here and there, but overly the events of singleplayer and not connected with coop-campaign
I would however recommend to finish singleplayer first, because singleplayer introduces lots of new mechanics, that Portal 1 didn't have. so starting coop-campaign without clearing singleplayer first might pose to be a bit tricky to grasp new gameplay gimmicks here and there. but, anyway, as you wish - I suppose there is a great charm of figuring out stuff with a friend together =)
rarestMeow said it all...
However, if you need a mate for the coop i'll be glad to do it with you.
I need "Professor Portal" achievement. Plus, that's always a pleasure to play at this game but I need a mate too
