[Bug] Steam causes portal 2 source mods to lag and crash

I'm just wondering if anyone else experiences this? especially those of us making source mods for Portal 2.

basically, there's a bug where something that Steam does causes both p2 and steam to crash at the same time, frequently. this happens right after a handful of lag spikes usually.

using the performance UI and video capture software, I was able to figure out that indeed- the lag spikes are caused by steam. there are also frequent red errors in the console saying that the game failed to retrieve a file from the UGC server, and they increase in number right around when these lag spikes occur.


I would like to report this directly to Valve, but I'm not sure who to send the email to. This is an issue I've seen other mods experiencing too.
