Portal 2
Visual Bugs in portals
On movable Portable Services, when looking through the portal, it's like I'm behind the portal. Like, inside the wall. (See video)
This first occured a couple of weeks ago. Might be after an update?
I was playing coop with my friend when I first noticed it and he said he also had the issue.
I now also have the issue in solo play. Every map I play.
Normal portals are fine.
I've had beemod installed for a long time, but that has never caused an issue. To be sure I've deleted all portal 2 files and reinstalled it, but still the same issue.
So my guess is it's caused after the last portal 2 update.

Does anyone else have the issue?

You should see a text box labeled Launch Options near the bottom of the window that opens. Type "-vulkan" in there (without the quotes of course). The game uses DirectX by default, but using Vulkan makes this bug go away (possibly at the cost of a slight loss in performance).

Please :(

Apparently it's related to AMD drivers. It occurs on version 21.3.1 and newer. Works fine for me on 21.2.2 and older. Send a bug report to AMD, hope they fix it....

This is the general problem as to why AMD GPU's suck on some games since they tend to have issues that are not present on Nvidia GPU's.

I recently encountered this issue as well and just finished submitting a bug report to AMD. If anyone finds a solution or knows of any plans AMD has to fix this, please say so. I never even thought about how weird it would feel to play Portal or Portal 2 without being able to actually see through all of the portals. Now I know

Thanks! Seems to work though it might stutter from time to time. Anyway, thanks for mentioning this!!

The stuttering should go away completely once you have played the game enough. From what I understand, Vulkan builds a shader map or something as you play and that causes the stuttering. Once it has all of the shaders it needs, it shouldn't do that anymore. The only other issue with this solution is that it can't be used for Portal 2 mods like Portal Reloaded unless the mod is specifically given support for Vulkan. So I guess I have to hope AMD fixes this eventually or I may just have to go with Nvidia the next I upgrade my graphics card lol

Just an update, I got tired of dealing with this bug and emailed one of the developers of Portal and Portal 2 and he responded in like 2 minutes! I provided him the link to your video to show him the problem. He said there's probably not much he can do about it himself but that he'd try to pass it along to AMD

Nice, thanks!

I'm suffering from the same issue since I bought a new computer a few weeks ago. It's hella annoying.
I tried adding the "-vulkan" command in the start settings, but it didn't help. Am I doing it wrong or is there something else I have to do in addition? Portals still look like that.

If you follow the instructions I left step by step, typing "-vulkan" should work. The only problem I can think of is if you typed in the quotation marks with it, which you shouldn't. Leave them out. But yeah, I'm almost certainly buying an Nvidia card the next time I upgrade

I didn't use quotation marks, but still have the issue. Hm. Not sure if vulkan is really used, though. Is there a way to check if it actually uses it?
