You cant in Portal 2 but you can in portal 1

It is possible, I have a friend who did it. You need to port some assets and scripts from hl2 and you should be able to get them.

when you type in "give grenade" it doesnt have any errors or anything but it doesnt give you anything because the portal is the only tool slot i guess

it probably recognizes "grenade" as being on a list for summonable entities, but then cant do anything with it afterwards from lacking other aspects. maybe it cant spawn because it lacks a model, maybe it does spawn but is invisible and theres no longer any code that tells it to actually affect what the player has on them and so it just dissapears on touch, ect. idk the exact of whats happening but "they were removed from the engine" isn't necessarily disproven by that.
