Remote Play Together

This makes no sense. I'm trying to host this (I own it) and play with a brother who does not. I start game and invite him and he accepts, but it does nothing other than let him watch me play. How does this work? I read this from a website:

"Meanwhile, with the newly released Remote Play Together functionality, it's possible to play split-screen Portal 2 with a remote Player 2 who doesn't even own the game. That's not in the patch notes, but it's worth making note of. Portal 2 has online cooperative support, but both people need to own the game."

That seems to contradict itself.

hit that button that says local coop
then open your overlay (shift tab) and right click on a friend and click invite to remote play or around those lines

you should have that local button like you see in mine
its right next to the back button
click that boom you can now use remote play together

No, as I said, I don't have that button. I just have "Back".

update your game and verify your cache files
if that dont work try re-installing, they just added that button with remote play together launch so older game builds might be out of date

i think the button only shows when the game detects a controller
since thats the only way you can use RPT is with a controller

I thought a keyboard could be used? I'm not going to use a gamepad where a mouse and keyboard is available. Besides, I don't want to play in split screen, I want to play just as I would in singleplayer but with another playing the same way.

I thought a keyboard could be used? I'm not going to use a gamepad where a mouse and keyboard is available. Besides, I don't want to play in split screen, I want to play just as I would in singleplayer but with another playing the same way.

thats the only way RPT works, one person on keyboard one person on controller
unfortunately, this is the way they made coop work for this mode half screen to each player
RPT is supposed to be the same as in your own house couch coop gaming on the same tv like when you played n64 mario kart with your friends, 4 players on one screen except this is only 2 on one screen
if you want normal coop = go for normal online coop with 1 screen per person
if you want classic splitscreen coop = go RPT with multiple ppl on screen

I am having the same problem, so I can't remote play coop with 2 computers because one needs a controller? Is there a way to just use the mouse/keyboard of each computer to play coop? Has there been an update since 2020? Thanks :)

For some reason you need to have a controller for the local co-op button to appear.

well makes sense cant play coop with no controller plugged in
