Remote Play Together
This makes no sense. I'm trying to host this (I own it) and play with a brother who does not. I start game and invite him and he accepts, but it does nothing other than let him watch me play. How does this work? I read this from a website:

"Meanwhile, with the newly released Remote Play Together functionality, it's possible to play split-screen Portal 2 with a remote Player 2 who doesn't even own the game. That's not in the patch notes, but it's worth making note of. Portal 2 has online cooperative support, but both people need to own the game."

That seems to contradict itself.

I am just trying this tonight too, but it seems useless. I own Portal 2, my friend doesn't. I can choose "Remote Play Together" for the friend from my friend chat list. They get an invitation and click 'Play game'. We end up in the same game, but it seems to be nothing more than a remote mirror so she can watch me play the game. I tried going into the Coop mode, and I can see my friend listed, but when I send an invite it does nothing. There is no way to proceed from the Coop screen into actual game play.
Lame, Steam. Very lame.

Exactly, he can see me play. I have tried this now in a t least four games that claim to have this feature and none have worked:

Portal 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Trine 2
Mortal Kombat X

I'm assuming you are not required to own this Steam streaming device, right? I see nothing on the webpage that indicates you need this hardware.

So far, I am under the impression that this feature simply does not work.

1. launch portal 2
2. click play coop
3. click local coop at bottom
4. make sure you have a controller plugged in, controller is player 1, keyboard/mouse is player 2
5. if your friend has a controller he shares your controller input and will be player 1, if he doesnt, let him share your keyboard and mouse so he will be player 2 , you will have to use controller and be player 1
6.???
7. enjoy portal 2 coop

So other players aren't using their own client? This doesn't seem right. How do four people share one keyboard?

only one player can use the keyboard, all others have to use controller
there is an exception, more than 1 person can use keyboard if for example you assign left side of keyboard to one player and right side to another, but then complications arise with mouse sharing

in portal 2, it doesnt matter only 2 ppl play so 1 on keyboard 1 on controller makes it simple

I can understand the controllers but still don't know how it's possible to play. All the other player sees is the host screen. There doesn't appear to be a way for them to join. Are they not getting their own character?

yeah, it requires them to use the same computer for it to work. it can't be from different computers unless the both parties own it.

hit that button that says local coop
then open your overlay (shift tab) and right click on a friend and click invite to remote play or around those lines

There is no "Local Co-op" option in my game. There is only "Standard" and "Challenge".
