Portal 2
Glados' motives?
Something I never got completely was Glados' motives. Before the events of the first game Glados had flooded the enrichment center with neurotoxin, Killing all the scientists. But why? She had just resumed her directive after the incident.

Now I suppose this could have been revenge but this isn't confirmed and she had lost her memories of being Caroline.

In the final level of the original Portal Glados attempts to kill chell for seemingly no reason at all, but again, why? She had completely cooperated every step of the way.

Anyone have an explanation for these?

Well i have no explenation but when wheatley gets in charge he also becomes evil and wants to kill chell...
I dunno
They were putting personality cores on her to subdue the need for testing that the facility's programming was telling her to do. So to GLaDOS, the scientists were getting in the way of the testing she was programmed to do.

When Wheatley gets attached to the mainframe, he also begins to get the need to test.

But they didn't begin to put the personality cores on her until her attempts to kill the scientists. The cores failed one after another. Even with the mortality core it failed.

Also, the question still remains on why she tried to kill chell after the testing.

I suppose it's because it's how GLaDOS works. She has murderous tendencies, which is why they tried so hard to "tame" her by adding cores to her mainframe. She's a rogue AI. Perhaps, but don't quote me on it, she got bored of Chell, too?

I suppose he was one of the "failed" cores. Of which we see possibly hundreds piled up in a cage near the end of Portal 2

While He did slow Glados down he also filled her with a stream of terrible Ideas, which plunging in a terrible idea machine into an AI that manages the entire facility wouldn't be the best idea.

To be precise, they've put the *morality* core after that event. It doesn't mean they haven't tried it with different cores beforehand, Which, possibly, was exactly the reason GLaDOS turned up so mentally unstable in the first place.

Because of Caroline it's as simple as that
