How to replace the sound in Portal 2 with your own
I'm trying to make a mod for the game Portal 2 I don’t understand how to make my own voice acting. How to change the sound from the game to your own? The sound for which you need to change is already ready in wav format.True, I have Portal in Russian, and it is interesting to me that this sound was inserted into the Russian version of the voice acting.
PS.- if you do not know how to do it in the Russian version, then write at least how to do it in the English version.

create new folder called portal2_dlc3, inside that folder create folder called pak01_dir, inside pak01_dir folder create another folder called sound, inside sound folder create folder called vo, then inside vo folder create these folders: announcer, cavejohnson, core01, core02, core03, glados, turret_defective, wheatley.

Your file structure should look like this:
../Portal 2/portal2_dlc3/pak01_dir/sound/vo/announcer ../Portal 2/portal2_dlc3/pak01_dir/sound/vo/cavejohnson ... ../Portal 2/portal2_dlc3/pak01_dir/sound/vo/turret_defective ../Portal 2/portal2_dlc3/pak01_dir/sound/vo/wheatley

Now put your new voiceline file in the proper place with propper name (like you would be overriding it).

For example if I would like to override We're back! line of defective turret I'll put the file there:
../Portal 2/portal2_dlc3/pak01_dir/sound/vo/turret_defective/finale02_turret_defect_return01.wav

Now after you replaced all of your files you have to compile the vpk file (pak01_dir to be exact).

Go to
../Portal 2/bin/
and find vpk.exe . Now create a shortcut (A shortcut! Do not copy the exe file! Make a shortcut!) in your
../Portal 2/portal2_dlc3
folder. The last step is to drag and drop pak01_dir folder from your portal2_dlc3 folder onto vpk.exe shortuct.

If everything went alright you should be presented with pak01_dir.vpk file.

Where to put the finished file?

With your advice, it turned out that the whole game without sound but my voice acting is also not working. I decided to type: snd_rebuildaudiocache but it all became as it was before me.

Well, there's no a vpk.exe file in Portal 2/bin/

You probably need portal 2 authoring tools downloaded.
i did all this but i didn't get a vpk file. vpk.exe just kept spitting this message out at me and hanging:

CDynamicFunction: Loading library 'Kernel32.dll' (75EC0000) CDynamicFunction: Lookup of 'TryEnterCriticalSection' in 'Kernel32.dll': 77E50990
if anyone could help me out here i would greatly appreciate it; all i'm trying to do is make a sound file replacement

Same things happening to me too. At first when I was trying this it was working but now it won't all of the sudden...

You have to instal Portal 2 authoring tools from steam library. Then you will find vpk.exe in folder Portal 2/bin/

You have to write command snd_updateaudiocache in ingame console. Then you can try command snd_rebuildaudiocache.

I did that already but it says 0 files updated. I have all game audio except for the audio i'm trying to replace. I'm trying to replace the announcer voice lines but they just straight up aren't playing
