Portal 2
Who owns the Product Key JKGXV-DNNCI-DKY4Q?
I bought this game at a thrift store, and Steam insists on adding it to my library. Because the product key has already been registered by the previous owner, I can't install the game. I have used the Steam client in an attempt to contact the previous owner, but no one has responded. I am leaving this key out here publicly in an attempt to contact the current owner.

Moderators are welcome to help with this issue. As I've stated before, I own the packaged version of the game; I do not have a pirated copy. I've installed this on computers without Steam, and it works, but I want to add it to my Steam library.

To the original owner of the product key, please respond to this message in the comment section below. I will contact you by email, if needed, in order that we may be able to discuss this further.

Don't purchase game codes from a thrift store, as they may have already been used. Refund it, get your cash back, and legally purchase Portal 2 on Steam:

Uh, yeah... I know that. The problem with your way of thinking is that I got it at a place where it states that all sales are final; no refunds.

Unfortunately you do not. You have a disc and a piece of paper that grants the original buyer a license to play a game; that license has been redeemed and is non-transferable.
Regardless, I still want whomever owns the product key to contact me. All of this arguing about who owns what is not getting me any closer to finding the person in question.

I have renamed the title of this discussion to try to capture the attention of the person in question. Please RSVP!

You do realise that even if you do find the person that has used the key (which is very unlikely), there isn't much you can't do as the key is stuck with his steam account, unless he willingly gives up his steam account to you (even more unlikely).

Right now you are asking people if they seen your lost cat on the other side of the continent. Probably not gonna give any good results.

Welcome to the digital age where CD's are a thing of the past.

How would one go about looking up their ``Product Key''?

Find the game in your Steam Library, then right-click on it and select 'View CD Key'.
This will only show up if there actually is a key associated with that game, so for example, I purchased Portal 2 directly through Steam so that isn't there for me for Portal 2.

Oh, wow! I forgot all about this! Don't worry, bud; I've since bought Portal 2 separately on Steam, so it's all cool now. I still have your game disc, though! 😉
