Yeah, Apple are pretty ruthless when it comes to forcing the industry forward...
Unfortunately for their customers, this means that their stuff is often incompatible with a large segment of the industry that hasn't caught up yet. They do this all the time, then you're left with a choice between the latest Mac stuff and being able to use old stuff.
I don't think game devs will update their old 32bit only games to 64bit unless Windows also drops support for 32bit applications, which I don't think will happen until the next major Windows release, if it even happens then. It's probably just best to stay on High Sierra until that happens.
I do wish Valve would say something about the 64 bit/CPU transition.

no. Apple should stop removing features than 3rd party programs rely on, first 32 bit support, then OpenGL, what next?.
