Moving on - This became an issue with Portal 2 and a few other Valve games after recent small patches to them, and some other unrelated games that were relying on Steam's controller configuration system - many games with their own controller support and not using Steam's controller configuration system are unaffected and still function properly.
Support has put out a very quick response with a working fix to this - I've seen that several users across boards for different games have gotten a support response to this effect, and all of them have reported that doing so fixes their controller issues. Prior to this I had made my own workaround for my DualShock4 controller, but after following these instructions I no longer need to use my own fix. I'll copy/paste the relevant part from these support responses below:
--------------------
If you haven't already, please opt-in to the latest beta version of the Steam Client as the recent update from June 5th may have a possible fix.
1) In Steam, click on "Steam" in the upper left, then choose the "Settings" menu. (Preferences on Mac)
2) On the "Account" tab under "Beta Participation" click the "Change..." button.
3) Select the desired beta test from the "Beta Participation" drop down list and click "OK".
4) You will be prompted to restart Steam, please select the "Restart Steam" button.
Note: In some cases, you may need to perform these instructions twice for the beta to take affect.
--------------------
It wasn't merely the right analog stick camera view that wasn't working for me but also the DPad, critcal for selecting gadgets and weapons or for menu navigation in many games. Hopefully my new configuration will be permanent -- at least until Steam's next ambitious idea.
Hope this helps. Let us know your results.
Thank you so much to the both of you!!!!
Had the issue where Wireless Xbox 360 controller right stick not working. I did as instructed but then ticked xbox configuration support again and all seems fine.
Cheers
Worked on my steam version of PORTAL 2, with an official and wired xbox360 usb controller.
All of a sudden the right analog stick stopped working, and I made sure it was not a physical problem, because the right analog stick was working normally in other games, so that's what I did. Try this:
1. unplug the controller from the pc, and keep it unplugged until you finish these instructions;
2. delete the driver of the controller using "DeviceCleanup 64bit" (you NEED to run as administrator to work, just open the software as an administrator, select the unplugged driver of the xbox360 controller, and press "delete" - you can download this excelent tool easily searching for it on google, unfortunately I was unable to post the url here)
3. go to your steam library, and RIGHT CLICK the game PORTAL 2;
4. Select "properties" and find the option "Steam input per-game settings";
5. Set this option to "FORCED OFF" (in some languages it appears just as "NO") and click "close";
6. restart your computer;
7. plug the xbox360 controller again and let it reinstall the driver;
8. Open Portal 2 and play the game with the right analog stick working again!!
I hope this works for everyone out there with the same problem. IT MIGHT WORK TO OTHER GAMES TOO, but I didn't test it. Post here if it work on your other games with the same issue, so we'll know that this is a good solution.
Cheers, friends!
I didn't see that "Identify" button.

After reading comment before me with screenshot I somehow got "Identify" button by check all boxes and unchecking them or it work just by checking all boxes but not sure about. But before pressing "Identify" button I checked define layout and there was axis for joystick set correctly.
