Portal 2

Wheatley & Cake Recipe Core are the same core theory
I'm super confused on which game forum to post this question on because it involves both Portal & Portal 2. In Portal 2, we are informed that Wheatley was an Intelligence Dampening Sphere that was put on GLaDOS to make her dumber. Yet during Portal, when we get to GLaDOS, she only has 4 cores on her. Molarity Core, Curiosity Core, "Cake Recipe" Core, and Anger Core. So either in Portal we couldn't see the spot on GLaDOS where Wheatley had been before he deattached himself to look after the test subjects, or Wheatley was "Cake Recipe" Core! I'm pretty positive that Wheatley is "Cake Recipe" Core. I swear that have the same freaking voices and they both have a blue eye! Sure their cases are completely different between the games, but it's most likely due from Aperture Science's technology had advanced & all the cores had gotten a change in their cases. I have no idea how Wheatley could had deattached himself from GLaDOS or how he could have avoided the fires of the incinerator. Who knows, maybe he was lucky and one of his handles gotten caught on something poking up high above the flames. Then he somehow was able to get onto a rail & take the job of watching over the humans.

I don't know which of those forums to post this theory in, I don't wanna spam those forums & get in trouble for posting the same discussion on both of them. So for now I'll post it here. I really wanted to make this theory so here it is. I don't care if anyone notices it or not. I'm just glad it's out there. If anyone does reply, I'd love to chat about my theory or yours, or thoughts you had of my theory. To be clear, a friend of mine suggested I post this theory here on Portal 2 forum, and I thought it was a good idea so I wasn't spamming both forums with the same discussion. But please, I hope readers enjoy & like my theory, I'm open to feedback and will happily discuss Portal related things. All I ask is for some kindness, and if you're being extremely rude to me I won't hesitate in reporting you. I'm just a big Portal fan.

No, they are separate entities.

Either
A. GLaDOS got rid of him.
B. He wasn't used in the end, or was perhaps removed to make room for the Morality Sphere.
C. Worked so effectively that GLaDOS would have destroyed the facility, so they put him up to be a management robot instead.

Great points. But GLaDOS recalls Wheatley filling her head with terrible ideas, and that the scienists used cores to control her. Even though GLaDOS is known liar, she still was being honest recalling that Wheatley gave her terrible ideas in order to make her an idiot. So maybe it was your "A" point.

I'm aware of that. But Wheatley was attached to GLaDOS at some point. And I don't know if there was an empty spot on her where Wheatley used to be when Chell had to get the 4 cores off of GLaDOS.

theres only space for 3 cores on GLaDOS, excluding where her central core is (the oblong shaped one with yellow light)

There's 4 for the one spot Molarity fell off.

I'm pretty sure only 3 cores were incinirated in portal 1 and put on wheatley (in glados body) in portal 2

BTW, during GLaDOS' dialogue with Wheatley after being put in a potato, she says that the cores were put on her AFTER she flooded the enrichment center with neurotoxin, especially the morality and intelligence dampening core (wheatley).

There was 4, Molarity, Curosity, Cake, and Anger. 4 round cores, that were not GLaDOS's core. It's unknown how Wheatley was attached to GLaDOS then had left her body to watch over the humans. Portal 2, GLaDOS had changed her body after she got it rebuilt so there couldn't be any cores on her. Then Wheatley takes over her body, and he must have changed it back to recieve cores planted on it for story convenience. I'm sorry if I had upset you, I don't wanna fight. This was just a theory I had, you can ignore it if that makes you happier than achknowledging it.

Perhaps wheatley was higher up/hidden in GLaDOS somewhere and when she got destroyed he detached from her somehow and found his way back onto the rail system.

Yeah, that's also a great point :D

My personal theory is that cake core is wheatley. After all, the cake core was also called the "intelligence core" despite it always reading off terrible ingredients for a likely deadly cake. Not very intelligent, if you ask me. Meanwhile, Wheatley was also referred to as the "Intelligence Dampening Core". Not to mention both their eyes were blue. That's some hefty coincidence that both their eyes were the same and their names were so similar. Cake core might have been Wheatley. Also, if you all remember in Portal 2, GlaDos drops Chell down the incinerator hatch upon waking up, and there were quite a few things that hadn't gotten incinerated down there, including a functional dual portal gun. So, things don't get immediately incinerated upon going down there, and could actually survive. Therefore, it's not farfetched to say that the "cake core" aka, Wheatley for the sake of theory, could have survived and found a way onto a management rail.

lol I think you managed to explain my theory in least words lol :3 Yeah they have similarities between them. I don't think Wheatley could have popped off of GLaDOS himself or that she'd have the power to override reject all the cores put on her to control her. I think the only way he could have gotten off was somehow getting saved from being incinerated or that when GLaDOS exploded, that if Wheatley was his own core then Wheatley probably was thrown off from the boom. And then the facility gave him a rail so he could help keep the facility going cause cores were made in case humans couldn't be at Aperture, the cores could run it.

It was nice meeting you :D Have a great day/night.

When you drop the cake core into the incinerator, you can hear an explosion however. The morality and anger core also explode, implying that it is destroyed. If so, it cannot possibly be Wheatley.
