Is it possible to force Portal 2 to use DirectX 8.1?

My pc is a toaster, and I manage to play some of Valve's games thanks of being able to set -dxlevel 81 or -dxlevel 80 as launch options. I was wondering if it's possible to do the same with Portal 2. I don't want to buy something I can't play.

It looks interesting. However he doesn't mention anything about the -dxlevel 81 command. So isn't it possible? Has anybody tested it?

From what I know it's (unfortunately) not possible to use dxlevel 8 and 8.1 in Portal 2 cuz Valve...
