Worse oddworld game of the whole series, they remade the best game in the series and made it the worse.

Hum... I'm a massive fan of that universe... I got the artbooks and everything there is related that you can get.
BUT HOW IN THE NAME OF THE MUDOKON knowed as ABE can you ♥♥♥♥ this up this bad...

I'll explain...

Like a lot of people I didn't jumped on the wagon of this one until recently (why ? Well good question I do not know, maybe I do know...) So the game finally arrives on steam in that supposed to be "enhanced edition". I wanted to give it a shot since i'm such a fan... And firs impression GREAT, cinematic looks good, then the game starts... You run... A lot, you get floaty controls because why not (actually i think it's a stupid decision but we'll see right ?

So I start going through the first level, introduced to a basic fire water mechanic... that is not working so well... can't be worse I guess...Let's continue. I arrive at a moment when the game ask me to sprint, SO HERE WE GO I SPRINT I JUMP THE EXPLOSIVE PLATFORMS JUMP GRAB A POLE AND THEN... Then I end up on a platform at the bottom with one of the worst camera angle possible... So I start to think... Should I look backwards since the camera is suggesting that , ? I have a crate with item maybe i need to use those ? Hum.... No espace I die falling of the platform while the camera goes behind a rock...

After 3 of the same tries I start to question myself... Maybe it's me, maybe I became dumb... let's try one more time... Nope same result after I jump from that pole I end up on that platfrom at the bottom with that crate... Then as I thought I was doing something wrong I decided to go look at a walkthrough of the game.

AND OH BOY SURPRISE SURPRISE the platform I was supposed to jump on IS JUST NO THERE FOR ME, JUST DOENS'T EXIST! ...30 minutes in and I get a game breaking BUG ! AMAZING ! GREAT ! And no I give up there, I'm not gonna inflict that kind of things on myself, not again no ever... I thought this was the patched "enhanced edition" of the game... I guess I was wrong it feels like a beta only 30 minutes in. New 'n' Tasty Was a remake yes but a GEM of a remake, a great overall for an old game that I STILL PLAY ON PS1!

Why making such a great puzzle platformer a bad platformer filled with game breaking bugs...after all it's 2024 ! (I know came out a while ago but still). There is no life sign from the studio itself, I don't even know if they plan to work on a sequel or a remake of Munch... But with this I think it's better for Oddworld to just rest... OR try to go in a complete other direction. What a shame... I'm done with this game, I probably gonna let it run to drop the cards and uninstall it like it never existed. If yo ucan't hire good level and game designers... Just make movies instead ?

Honestly?
Like everyone, I've had huge childhood memories of Oddworld Exoddus, and despite repeating myself multiple times that I should see this game as something new and not a remake of Exoddus, I still struggled at liking the game by watching videos.

But I still wanted to try it, and honestly? I'm glad. The game adds things that are imo a bit unecessary and just try to appeal to a larger, newer audience (Crafting system, mainly), but I'm still enjoying the puzzles, the universe, the graphics, and the sound design (my god I love the sound design in this game!)

I just wish the game didn't retcon so many things from Exoddus and fully assumed being a completely different game with nothing related to Soulstorm brew. There's also a lack of quicksave that will make some part of the game VERY frustrating, so all is not white.

But overall? I'm glad with the game. It won't mark my soul like Odyssee and Exoddus did in my younger years, but I'm enjoying it, having fun, re-discovering the game. It does have redeeming qualities.
