Back to this level. I can't seem to beat it at all. It's like It seems like I have to upgrade my hardware, but right now any hardware upgrades are locked.

Hi, you don't need hardware to complete most of the levels of the game with a gold rating, this one included.

But with this level only being able to achieve gold by not putting a single red square into output 3 is just very unsatisfactory. Putting them into output 1 just to get it filled in time... that just doesn't feel right. Output 3 should be modified to only require green triangles to fit the (apparently) only working solution for gold.

Agreed, it's not a full 100% accuracy rating as it's purposefully excluding a valid and potentially required parameter. I understand that the puzzle requires a unique way of thinking to get a 'perfect' result but it seems as more of an oversight or misdirection rather than a specific performance boost.

Not really. I like that you can try to fulfill all requirements and you can finish the level. But if you want to finish it in the most efficient way, sometimes you just have to reconsider your parameters, just like in real life.
