Worse yet, it bugs out Zeo so he won't talk to you now, as if your conversation to him was complete and he has no more topics to talk about. The next thing you need to do to advance is to talk to him again and then he'll notice you have the second, real stone. But he won't talk unless you leave the area and then come back (the de-spawning of him and re-loading that happens when he goes out of range and then comes back into range seems to fix the no-talk-to-him bug).
I spent forever wandering around looking for the second real stone, when I had it the whole time but the game notebook claimed I still had to go get it, and Zeo hadn't been talk-to-able so I assumed my time with him was done when it wasn't.
Feel for you bro. But the Shamazzar essence stone is probably the most asked question about Outcast and there's no shame looking it up on YouTube or gamefaqs.com
Looking it up didn't help. The relevant problem in this case was a bug the walkthroughs don't mention - that the next step is supposed to be that you can talk to Zeo a second time and he'll mention the real stone (that was already in the inventory when I talked the first time, but he doesn't mention it until you talk a second time), but in reality I was not able to open the dialog system (there was no option to left-click him) until I left the zone and reloaded it (i.e. go through a Daoka and return). That need to reload the zone to unstick his dialogue isn't mentioned in any walkthrough and I found it out entirely by accident.
Anybody?
It's in the pond behind one of the small temples (it should be Earth/Gandha). That's right next to the pond with fake gorgor.
