Support for Non-VR play?
Just wondering if, before I buy, SUPERHOT VR has support for playing without a headset?
I loved the original, and I've seen other 'VR' games have non-VR support, like VRchat.

I will eventually buy a VR headset, but honestly it's a lot of money when you're starting Uni soon.

I'm afraid SUPERHOT VR can't be played without headset. It aims to be as immersive as possible and that wouldn't be achieved if we took VR component away from SUPERHOT VR.

Alright, all good. Just want to be sure. I guess I'll save up for a headset and come back to this later!

once you get into this in VR it's more or less like a drug, its a roomscale vr tho so if you dont have more than a 1x1 meter playarea it can be tricky to play it

Sounds amazing. Just bought a Switch though, so I guess an Oculus Rift will be my next major purchase.

been thinking of getting a switch, would you recommend getting one nowadays or is a new handheld coming any time soon?

No news about a new one. If you want to play homebrew games, definitely get a preowned one with the right serial number. Otherwise I'd definitely reccomend getting a switch. If you can, wait for a sale; the games alone have been ~$80 in store on their own, but it's absolutely brilliant. Serves as a handheld and can be connected to a TV as a console.

Have you seen the non-VR version of the game?

Yes, there is. The other person is talking about this version specifically, which doesn't support non-VR users. https://store.steampowered.com/app/322500/SUPERHOT/

Oh yeah, I've got the original SUPERHOT already. 100%ed it. If I want SUPERHOT VR though, I need a VR headset? Unlike VRChat or something, which supports non-headset play?

i have no idea why you would want to do that

the vr levels are set up in such a way that playing them on a flat screen without wand controllers it would be boring, because you do not move around the level at all. its a good game in vr but if you have already played the original im not sure what more you would get

It's basically because, one, decent VR headsets are not remotely cheap, and two, thanks to the pandemic it's not really easy to have products shipped anyway, so I don't think I'm capable of getting a VR headset right now. At any rate, I used to play AAA games at 240p (via custom changes) just to run them before I got a gaming pc, so I'm well adjusted to poor looking games; the gameplay matters more.

I'm asking whether or not the game would actually boot up and support mouse and keyboard gameplay without a headset. I'm not asking for opinions as to whether or not I'd enjoy a non-VR experience.

it would suck with kb&m even if you could boot it up. Get the headset then play shvr :)

Spending $600 is easier said than done when there's no work, and when shipping is a luxury. Thanks for the advice, but I guess I'll have to wait to be able to afford it all <3

I understand. I honestly didn't look at vr games until I had headset because it frustrated me so. I used to resent vr games until I got hmd... now I wish more games were vr.

Can't win. Stay safe :)
