Possible to proceed without shooting yourself in the head?
I love Superhot and was extremely digging the intro to the VR version after finally getting a headset. Yes, I remember how the original game ends...

But being asked to pretend to shoot myself in the head to play more than 5-10 minutes is pretty uncomfortable and distressing, for personal reasons. Borderline dealbreaker - for right now I simply stopped playing even though I genuinely wanted to continue.

Is it possible to proceed without doing this?

I suppose it isn't.

I suppose the "next best thing" is to put your headset on a table and "throw" it by pressing the trigger, and then proceed.

Hmm...
Best I could think of is to modify the "highestfinishedlevel" parameter in the save file to whatever level is after that one. Unfortunately I'm not sure what that level is called.
Here's the path to the save file if you want to poke around in it:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\SUPERHOT_Team\SUPERHOT_VR\VRsuper.hot
It's a hex file, so you'll need some way to decode it and then re-encode it. This online editor[hexed.it] I just found seems to be pretty good.

Alright, I looked around a bit and believe I found all the level names:
VRLaunch CezaryVR_ReverseFall CageFight_VR CezaryVR_Corridor CezaryVR_Dojo CezaryVR_AirportControl AdrianVR_Test PanosVR_TheBridge2 PanosVR_Helipad CezaryVR_NewDarkAlley PanosVR_Graveyard CezaryVR_SHMUP CezaryVR_TheyAreYourTools AdrianVR_Staircase CezaryVR_BreakIn CezaryVR_Airplane AdrianVR_CezaryDesperadosBar PanosVR_OilTank2 PanosVR_TheRestaurant CezaryVR_TowerTop
Hopefully you should just be able to edit the "highestfinishedlevel" parameter of your save file to the one after whatever you're currently on to skip it. Don't know for certain as I haven't tried, though.
Send me a friend request if anything is unclear and I'll do my best to help you. :happy_creep:

Also, trigger(!) warning: This will happen once more at the end of the game.

Looking around in the source code using some random .NET decompiler I found online there appears to be a setting called "skipDedication" which I am guessing might actually skip this sequence entirely. (based on the "show your dedication" message that comes up at that point in the game)
No idea if that's what it actually does, though.
If I understood the save file syntax correctly it should be located in the stringDictionary, so appending "skipDedication":true after the highestlevelfinished parameter should probably work.
If I'm correct, it should look something like this:
"stringDictionary":{"highestlevelfinished":"lvlname","skipDedication":true}
Perhaps I'll go ahead and start a new game to see if this works...

Also, kinda unrelated but while looking for that I found a GameObject called "JEBANYWIELKISPOTLIGHTTTTTTTKURWAMAC" in the code of one level.
Now, I don't know Polish, but I do know how to use online translating tools and I am pretty sure that could be translated to something along the lines of "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ big spotlight for ♥♥♥♥♥ sake".
I have a feeling whoever named that didn't expect anyone else to ever see it, lol.

Well, changing that setting just crashed the game so I wouldn't recommend doing that.
Anyways, I started a new save file to check this out, and since it didn't work I decided to just shoot myself in the head, quit the game and compare the backup I took just before with the new save file.
It doesn't actually change the highestfinishedlevel parameter, but it does change finishedInHacker and hasSeenHackerRoom1Full to true, as well as change byte 22-23 from E501 to 8202.
For simplicity, I decided to upload a savefile from just after this point of the game. You can find it here.[pastebin.com]
Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Yeah, I mean a lot of people deal with suicidal ideation and I personally know multiple people who have killed themselves. Its not exactly a "fun feature" to put into a recreational form of entertainment.

Accounting did the same thing but I don't think it was required to progress.

Hey, wow, thank you nicoper, that seems like a lot of effort to go through for investigating this and I really appreciate it. Thanks everybody for the understanding responses - I can handle the subject matter in general but I had been struggling with the issue that day and trying to get my mind somewhere else, so this was possibly the worst way to have it thrown at me.

What I did end up doing the next day was, tape a little piece of cardstock over the proximity sensor (Samsung Odyssey+) to prevent the game automatically being closed when removing the headset. Then just took the headset off and pulled the trigger at its (lack of a) head. I can readily enough do that again if the second instance in the game does turn out to be required; the jumping off the roof part was similarly bypassed by the motion of just taking the set off.

The save file will be useful to have in the future though (I'm not the only one I know who might want/need such a solution), so thank you again.

We acknowledge the issue and we'll make it possible to automatically skip such scenes in future patches. Right now we're working on implementing it properly.

If it means anything I really liked the shoot yourself in the head part, along with the part where you had to insert the cartridge in your head toward the end of the game to proceed but I can totally understand how this would make someone uncormfortable, just don't make skipping this stuff anywhere but in the menu as to not break the immersion

Love the game btw!

The idea is to allow for a general setting that would affect the entirety of the game. We are not planning on simply deleting these scenes from the game ;)
