How do I throw things reliably in VR?
I must be stupid, because searching has come up with nothing, so it must be completely obvious, but how do I throw things in this game? I can *sometimes* get myself to let go of an object by hitting "down" on the trackpad, but it's entirely unreliable. It seems like it should be a trigger release, like every other VR game I've played, but it's not. Can someone elighten me?

You can't. The developer accepted a huge payout from Oculus to forget how to make games for Vive. Even something like this that is perfectly natural in every other VR game ever made seems to be an unsurmountable technological hurdle to cross.

To release/throw an object use the touchpad.
We made a short video for the new control scheme for Vive (0:50 sec).

Press the trackpad as you start to throw, then release when you want to release it, kind of awkward, I wish it would release when you press the touchpad instead, but vive controllers are rather limited with their inputs, and it doesn't help that the grip buttons are impossible to use comfortably and the only button for apps is on the wrong side of the touch pad. Hopefully the knuckle controllers they are working on will have much more usable controls, and superhot gets updated to use them.

yes started playing and was frustrated nothing is throwable, thx. it would be great if it would be mapped to grab button? on htc. or trigger.

They have alternate controls for Vive you can get the in the Beta branch. They were the original, but lots of complaints about wrist pain with the excessive use of the grip button.

How about you stop being a massive dillweed?

cut it out fart knocker!

but yeah the only issue i had with the grip buttons last time i played was i'd let go of em, but continue to hold the object. nothing like going to throw your knife only to kinda flail it around and hav to line up for another throw.

dont know if that was fixed or not. i dont mind the grip buttons, just need it to function xD.

Yeah, throwing is a bit awkward with the vive wands and I cannot wait for the knuckles. The available controls are workable but do not seem ideal and Im trying to determine wether I like the original or new way. It may not be possible in the game but maybe an option for trigger for grab/release of all non shooting weapons and melee and have the trigger 'snap' shooting weapons to the hands and trackpad click to release?

*Edit/Update: 7.13*
Finished it last night and SuperHot is easily one of my favorite VR games now. Original controls are the way to go. After a couple of rounds it clicked and imo is the ideal method.

Wow, I'm really angry at people that complained about the original control and got the change they asked without care. Unthoughful feedback like this is one of the reasons it's currently ok to ignore the community. I bet the people complaining about the original controller didn't even think before talking and worse, doesn't even like the new controler either. Only solution for them is a game that playitself. But they nag anyway.

Worse than the kind of people that gives up playing the guitar because the strings hurt their fingertips.

Well, I'm glad it's possible to revert to original controlers. Thanks, developer. And I'm sorry for what you have to stand from us.

So glad I got a RIft. the Vive controlers are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ aweful.

Vive here and I think the throwing is quite accurate and easy. Just flick like you would toss a coin with your thumb, it does not have to be massive movement since you are freezing and releasing time, so the object can travel quite fast with just a tiny move.

Umm any way to switch back to grip buttons being grab and release please?

If not then whoever had the idea of new controls better have thought of an options menu

What happened to the controls on vive? I loved this game and it was the top of my vr game list but when I booted it up recently I couldn't figure out how to throw anything which is a fairly major feature of this game!!!

Right click Superhot VR on your library > Properties > Betas > Select the beta you would like to opt into: [original-vive-control-scheme]

i tried out the new way, takes some getting used to but honestly, it is a bit better than vive grips.
