The world on the main game is procedually generated, when you finish the game, you reset the entire world keeping all your stuff. The point of the game is to endlessly complete diferent procedually generated worlds, and get all the loot from each one of them.
There is a rogue like mode on one of the DLCs.
No, you respawn at checkpoint, no death penalty. Only that you need to redo the section since mobs do respawn too.
And Hardcore Mode (part of patch for game) https://remnantfromtheashes.wiki.fextralife.com/Hardcore+Mode
it's better than dark souls, but way less content and game world than elden ring. better combat though imho.
I liked this *overall*, just subjectively, more than Elden Ring, but Elden Ring has more standout things and set pieces that make it more impressive.
Remnant is absolutely fantastic for 80% of the time you play. 10% meh and 10% pretty good.
what makes it stand out for me in the Souls-like genre is that it's dark without being depressing and colorful but intense.
some of the best fights I've ever had in a video game was in Remnant, not in a souls game.
the biggest issue with the design of the original souls games and elden ring is that they are made to be cinematic and looking impressive, but offset this by making the character's movement limited, slow or clunky.
Remnant does not do that.
And the blended elements are far better than you would think.
Its up there in my top games in recent years, be solo or coop.
How the areas work in this game is pretty unique. It's more linear than Dark Souls, but Remnant makes up for it by using procedural generation to randomize an area's layout. Each area has enough variations that you'll have to run each area several times if you want to see all the random events, different bosses and collect all the varied and interesting loot. Thankfully the game has a feature called "Adventure mode" which allows you to revisit any area you have unlocked very easily.
Then you have all the interesting ways you can customize your character.
So what is Remnant? It's a great third person shooter with random levels supported by interesting RPG systems. It's a very unique game and one of my favorites.
